I wake up early in the morning and I eat breakfast. The doctors say that I can start walking to Kat's room today so I'm trying to gain strength. And be there as soon as I possibly can. I slowly turn my body so my legs hang off the bed. I look down at my legs and the one that got shot has a cast over it. I look up and see my crutches leaning up against the wall. I get up off my bed and limp to the wall and grab the crutches. I put them under my arms and walk back and forth a few times to get used to them. I look to my hand because I had written down Kat's room number on my hand with a pen yesterday so I wouldn't forget. By now I memorized it but I still check to make sure. 210 I thought. Alright just across the hall. I walk out of my room and walk across the hallway and look at the placard that hands next to the door. It reads "210". I open the door and see two guys. One who looks to be 22 and the other who looks to be 8. They look at me and the 8 year old gets up from a chair and runs over to me and hugs me. I stumble backwards and struggle to regain my balance. I look down and look at the little kid who hugs me tightly and I smile. The 22 year old gets up from the chair and walks over to us and pulls the 8 year old away from me. "I'm Jason and this is my younger brother Sam." the older one said. He held out his hand and I grabbed it and shook his hand. We stopped shaking hands and he puts his hand into his pocket and I put mine on my crutch. "I'm Mi-" "Miles. I know." Jason said, interrupting me. "How do you know my name?" I asked. "Kat has told us all about you. How you helped her overcome her fears about Paul. How you tried to comfort her when you saw her cuts. When you kissed her...". When he said that I saw anger in his eyes. "If you hurt her then I will hunt you down and kill you. Do you understand me?" he asked threateningly. "Yes I understand." I said. "J-Jason stop th-threatening people... I-I'm fine." I heard Kat say weakly. I walk over to her bed and look at her and she looks at me her soft icy blue eyes meet mine and she smiles weakly. Sam runs over to the bed and Jason walks to the bed. "It's about time you woke up! I have a question for you!" Sam said with excitement. "OK Sam, what is it?" Kat asked smiling. "In school we were talking about love and what it is. Then the teacher said that sometimes people meet their soulmate but other times they don't." Sam said. "OK. So what's your question?" Kat asked. "Whats a soulmate?" Sam asked. Kat's smile slightly faded. She sighed and smiled again. "It's a... well it's like a best friend but more. It's the one person in the world  who knows you better than anyone else. It's someone who makes you a better person..." she pauses. "Actually they don't make you a better person  you do that yourself, because they inspire you. A soulmate is someone who you can carry with you forever. It's the one person who... who knew you and excepted you and... believed in you before anyone else did or when no one else would. And no matter what happens you will always love them. Nothing can ever change that." Kat said. Tears started forming in her eyes and her bottom lip quivered. "Kat why are you crying?" Sam asked in a concerned tone of voice. "It's just... I never thought that someone like that would ever like me... that someone so kind and gentle could believe in me..." she smiles as tears stream down her face. She looks up at me with a happy sparkle in her eye. I smile and I hear the heart monitor make a weird sound. Not a constant beep but something else. I look at the heart monitor and her heart is beating quickly. Doctors rush into the room and push me and Jason and Sam away from her. I stumble and almost fall bus Jason catches me. I look at Jason then look at Sam and Sam is covering his mouth as tears form in his eyes. Jason put his hand onto Sam's back "It's ok Sam she'll be ok." he said trying to comfort Sam. One of the doctors turns around and sighed. "She's fine it was just a slight malfunction with the heart monitor. Miss Frost should be able to be out of here within the next day and you should as well." the doctor said as he looked at me. I nodded my head and he and the other doctors walk out of the room and the heart monitor is now normal. I sigh in relief and look at Kat. She looks at me and I walk over to Kat and look into her soft icy blue eyes. She smiles. "G-Go to back to your r-room Miles. P-Please." she says. "Ok. Don't die." I say. She smiles and I smile back. I walk out of her room and walk into mine and walk to the bed and sit down on the edge of it. I lean the crutches up against the wall and sigh. I feel bad. This is all my fault...
