I walk back into my office with the same clothes I wore to the training. My body hurts but well I'll get used to it.I just stuffed my uniform and dress in my purse, gladly which was big enough. As I enter I already find Grace and an auburn haired officer whom I don't recognise. They both turn around and look at me from head to toe.The officer looks away with a sigh.It makes me confused.
"What?..," I say with a questioning look at Grace.
"You should've straightened yourself a bit," she says half smiling.Oh shoot.
I totally forgot how I looked. My hair still messy and my face looking so worn out as if I had to carry buckets of water up a hill.Another reason to make me embarrassed.I really need to look into how I look in front of others.
I clear my throat.
"Uh..I was at the training and I really didn't get the idea to make myself..um you know..presentable."
The other officer chukles.
Grace gets up from the seat and smiles.
"Well anyway Susan, this is Alex,Alex Stencil, head of the technological operations here; and Alex,Susan Waterloo."
He gets up and we shake hands.
"Let me guess you were in the training room with Jones, right?"
I laugh,"yes."I take my seat and so do they.Grace sighs.
"Well, that's Jones, no one can beat him,in combat or gun practice."
Alex nods approvingly.
"And looks like you had a taste of it," he says.
And at these words of his it makes the three of us laugh.
" Yeah I did,I couldn't beat him unfortunately, anything I should know about him?," I ask looking at them.
"Maybe yeah," says Grace.
Alex straightens up and I can see his face clearly for the first time despite the hair coming on his face, minute by minute.Gray eyes and a fair complexion.Handsome.
"As long as I've been his buddy,I know that he's a very wealthy guy,his father died some years ago and Jones inherited the property, being the only child. He has contacts in Hollywood, goes to parties, likes to sleep in-,"
I cut him off with a wave of my hand to tell him to stop and Grace pops in laughing.
"Alright, alright,I get the idea!" I say laughing.Alex shrugs cooly.
"Suit yourself."
Grace looks at him and smiles, something's going on between them?
"So that's only what I need to know?" I ask confirming.
Grace quirks an eyebrow with amusement.
"Come on Alex, only the main details."
"Yeah right," he says and continues on,
"He's been in marriage at the age of seventeen, forcefully under his father's wishes.Later on when his father died,he finished things off with the crazy woman, they weren't happy with each other so it was the right thing to do.It was mostly because of the property, but that's a long time ago,he's twenty-three so it doesn't matter at all."
Okay wow.Grace looks at him shaking her head, towards him.
"Quit it,you're making her scared."
Me? scared? What?
It's too much to take in but maybe this was meant to happen and its not his fault.
"Alright enough talking about Jones ,let's get to work!" Grace says.
I'm partly grateful she changed the topic because I really didn't know what to say in return.I nod and they both explain the depiction of codes I'll be doing and also the solving of cases on different murder files. Through the talk I get to know Grace being head of all the laboratories here, and Alex a genius in intelligence and electronics.I depict the codes of the files that Grace hands me and finish them.
"Excellent Susan, you're already amazing at your work," she says going through them.
"That's because I've dome this before," I say laughing.
Alex clears his throat reminding me he's still in the room. They both get up with me along.I check the time finding the working hours have already come to an end,I didn't even notice I was with them both for almost five hours.
"Well this our queue to leave, see you later," Alex says, with a small smile.
"Sure", I say.
Grace comes in and hugs me.Her warm friendly gesture makes me happy.
"We'll be seeing Susan more often now,I'm really happy to be your friend."
"Me too," I say with a smile.. . . .
They both leave my office and I start packing my things.I pick up the files Grace asked me to check in and grab my bag.I switch the lights off and head out.My office is only a corridor away from Jones' and the Chief's office.I had to change into my ranger boots because if I wore a vest and pants with heels below,it would've made my dressing look a bit odd.I smile slightly to myself as I walk quickly.I look around before me and find the place I'm in,worth beautiful. It must've taken so much time to construct it.
I look behind while walking and suddenly bump into someone.I gasp as I crash into him and one of the files slips out of my hand.
"S..sorry.." I say apologetically looking up at him.
Pale yellow hair, green eyes and a complexion just like mine. He's handsome but according to me not as much as Jones. He picks up the file from the floor and looks at me quite intimately and his stare makes me uncomfortable.
He holds out his hand as I shake it.
"Mike,Mike Lewis," he says.
"Susan Waterloo," I say.
He smirks,"pleasure meeting you, though you should know where you're going. Its best to know what's ahead," he says with a very hollow voice,it makes me shudder.
I only nod and awkwardly stand in front of him.
"I better be going, its getting late," I say.
He instantly steps aside.
"And who's stopping you, incase you want to stay..for a drink."he says a smile playing on his lips, his gaze fixing on my waist.I look down and notice some skin showing.I pull my vest down abruptly, clear my throat and go past him.Even with the way he was looking told me it was wrong.I got held back for a second. I let out a deep sigh.I'll deal with it.I walk upto my car and suddenly see Jones going towards his gray Maserati and unlocking it.He's about to sit in when he suddenly looks in my direction.I turn my head quickly and pretend to put my things inside the car, making sure he doesn't get the idea of me looking at him.I peek at him again and notice him shaking his head and smiling as he gets in.Damn, maybe I was too late.
I quickly settle in and start the engine, pulling off onto the road, taking the direction opposite to him.Tomorrow I have to fight harder and prove myself I can beat him. After all,I need to make a good impression on him.Right now what's on my mind is having dinner and sleep. Its been a long day.
