The day had so far been a success, and by success I mean the school hadn't blown up and I hadn't been swallowed up by a black hole...you know the obvious worst case scenarios. The periods had flown by and I couldn't believe it was already lunch. I started to get a little anxious as I approached the cafeteria, where so much off my past torment had occurred, but I took a deep breath and walked through the doors looking for an empty seat. Every single pair of eyes in the place were on me. With a quick scan I could see the Jock table where Ethan was sitting along with every other football player who had a cheerleader on his lap and I hoped that would keep him preoccupied so I could find a seat far away from them. I was stopped when I ran into a petite blonde girl "Oh my god I'm SO sorry!" I exclaimed, stepping back and giving her a once over. She didn't look harmed, on the contrary she was laughing which kind of made her look like a pixie with her freckled button nose and bright green eyes. "You're fine! I was actually just trying to tap you an the shoulder when you turned around! Goodness you're tall! Like a model!" I gave a nervous laugh "Ha! No way. I'm too clumsy to be a model! Sorry I bumped into you though!" The girl laughed again. "It's perfectly alright! Listen I'm Catelinn and I was just coming over to see if you wanted to eat lunch with me and my friends." I smiled gratefully at her. I had secretly been a little anxious about where I would sit at lunch and this just made it easy. "I'm Rosie and I would love to. Thanks!" Catelinn smiled and lead me towards her table where I found an odd but friendly looking bunch of people. I scanned the table and saw Kat who gave me a nod, a boy and girl that I didn't recognize, and Roger who had checked me out at target. Lastly my heart skipped a beat when my eyes landed on the last person at the table. Those piercing blue eyes caught my gaze and Josh smiled up at me from across the table. I heard Catelinn start to talk and pulled my gaze away from Josh. "Everyone, this is Rosie! Rosie this is Kat, Roger, Simone, Allie, and Josh" They all smiled and mumbled greetings at me as I took my place between Kat and Catelinn. "Well hello again" Josh said giving me a little smirk. "Hi" I said a little too breathless for my liking. Catelinn looked between us "Oh, you two know eachother?" I started to mumble something but Josh beat me to it. "Not really, Rosie's been coming into the cafe I work at the past few day." I let out a a breath and start to feel my confidence return. "I just can't seem to stay away...must be the excellent service. Oh and the food" I say with a flirtatious smile. Josh gives me a cute little look then rubs the back of his neck. I think it's a nervous thing which gives me a little boost, maybe he feels the same way I do when I talk to him. The lunch period flew by. Catelinn kept the conversation flowing, asking me questions about myself, engaging the other and by the time the bell rang I was very grateful to her for including me. We all said our goodbyes and as I heading towards my next class, gym, Josh caught up to me tapping me on the shoulder. "Uh- hey Rosie.. I uh was wondering um.." he cleared his throat looking nervous and I felt my heart flutter. He seemed to take a deep breath and regain his confidence. "So since you seem to live at the cafe you'll probably be heading there after school? I can give you a lift if you want" I smile him trying to mask my excitement. "Well I hadn't made any plans yet but you're right. I'll probably wind up there. I appreciate the offer but I actually took my car today so I don't need a ride" He starts to look a little disappointed and I know he doesn't get what I mean. "So I'll just meet you there? Maybe I can follow actually, I'm still learning my way around." I say batting my eyes and trying to look innocent. Josh smiles big at me and I feel weak. "Sounds great. I'll meet you out front and we can leave together." I try not to get too excited. It's not exactly a date but hey, it's definitely a start. "I'll see you at three" I say turning to leave. Making sure to let my hair bounce over my shoulder. I try not to look back but I just can't help it and I'm glad that I do because Josh is looking back at me too. I see him run his hand through his dark hair and rub the back of his neck. Damn he's cute. I let my eyes linger for a moment longer as I hear the warning bell then I quickly turn making my way to gym class. Maybe this high school thing won't be so bad after all.
