Chapter 17

"Why would you call me sunshine in front of my mum!" I ask laughing a little, as I hit his arm.

"Because you are my sunshine." He says ruffling my hair.

"Come on! What do you mean you don't go on swings anymore!" Dave says laughing.

"I don't go on swings anymore!"

"How is that possible Tess" he says put his head in his hands and leaning backwards.

"Look I always got injured as a kid with these swings. I just find them dangerous okay." I say slowly calming down after laughing for so long.

"Okay, come sit." He says tapping on the tyre swing.

"Oh dave I really -- "

"I'll hold you!" He says cutting me off and laughing.

"Fine."  I say grumbling.

I sit on the swing and he holds the back of the swing. It starts moving slowly. "Dave!!!" I yell. " I don't like this!" I say laughing but sounding like I'm about to cry.

"Calm down "he says laughing as he then slowly hold my waist with both arms. After some seconds of holding me, he slowly let's go of me and starts pushing the swing.

"See your doing it. I'm just pushing it  and your perfectly fine. "

"Yeah I know that dave, thanks for reminding me !" I say trying to catch his eye. When I finally do I stick my tongue out and he ruffles my hair and let's go of the swing. I scream immediately as I see him in front of me and walking slowly away.
"Dave!" I yell.

The swing finally slows down and I jump off it. "Oh I'm going it kill you!" I scream at him before we start the game, tag.

I started running after him on till he headed into the bushes. "Dave, come on. Come out come out where ever you are" I sing.

I scream as he carries me of the floor." Put me down!" I say laughing and trying to wriggle out of his arms.

We start playing hide and seek behind trees and I see him at the end of some trees. I start laughing at the thought of him not being able to find me.

I start feeling my throat itch a little and I start coughing vigorously. I use my left hand to cover my mouth and once the cough stops, I take my hand off and find blood on it.

"Found you-- what the fu**. Are you okay? Tess talk to me!" He says after a while of me just staring at my hand.

"I'm fine it's nothing to worry about." I say trying to pull of a laugh.

"Tess let's go..." he says in a serious tone.

"What?! Come on dave, it's still early, I mean it's like seven o'clock or something" I say looking for a place that had a clock.

"Yeah I know that, but your coughing out blood" he says using his hands to form an explosion from his head. I had a confused look on my face and he said " I heard you coughing Tess. How do you think I found you?!" He says with his eyebrows up.

"Oh" that's all that manages to get out of my mouth. It was still bright outside.
The restaurant closed earlier today because my mum decided everyone needed a break. (Which is why it's still early)

He takes my hand as we start walking towards his car. No one knows my condition well expect my mum, about two years ago, I was outside with my Kylie and ruba when I started coughing. Blood started coming up and they ran too call my mum.
I remember her screaming my name. The doctor came over did some tests and that's when I found out I had cancer.

I've kept it from everyone. Only Kylie, ruba and my mum knows, I never told Peter and I don't want dave finding out either.

"You guys are back here early. Tess what did you do?!" She says smiling and putting her hand on her waist.

"Well hm. I'm going to get straight to the point. Tess started coughing" he says walking with my mum as they head to the kitchen. She slightly takes a glimpse of me and I shake my head so she knows she shouldn't tell him anything. "And she coughed out blood. So I got worried and brought her home immediately."

"Oh" my mum says and "she most have coughed really hard or something." She says now looking at me as I walk into the kitchen.

"Yeah that's what I tried telling him."

"Well I was worried so you know" he says give me an apologetic look.

"Well tomorrow is the last day before we head on back to school. So can I take you out for lunch then?" He asks.

"Yeah sure. Thanks for today though" I say as my mum stands up too give him a hug and I follow him out.

"You sure your okay?" He says tucking my hair behind my ear.

"Yeah I'm fine." I say looking at the floor. I hate having to  tell people I'm fine when I know I'm not.

"Okay" he says pulling me into his arms as he kisses my forehead. I smile as his warm body warms mine as well.

"Dave,  You know I'm still with Peter right?" I ask not knowing where it came from.

"Yeah I do Tess and I really don't give two shits." He says ruffling my hair as he walks into his car and drives off.
What he said made me smile. Has the badboy because soft or is this all just an act.

Once I get in my mum is already waiting for me. "You should tell him." She says.

"Not now" I say with a warm smile and she knows not to push it.

"Okay." She finally says then in a high pitched voice she says. "Well come on tell me everything that happened, including what happened outside too."
