Chapter 24

"It happened again doc!" Ruba says as she turns and cries on kylie's shoulder.

Kylie and Ruba had gone to the hospital with Tess a few times. They'd go with her for check ups and when she would start coughing blood most times.

"I will have to go now. Don't worry she will be fine!" He says with a nod and a smile.

"What is wrong with her?" Dave asks.

Ruba was about answering when a nurse from behind the counter came
to ask her to register the lady brought in.

"Well Dave" Kylie then says calmly "Tess is sick." She says lifting both her shoulders up and smiling.

"Kylie, it doesn't take a smart ass to know that. What is wrong with her?"

"She is sick okay!" She yells making ruba run towards them.

"What is going on?!" Ruba yells getting to both of them as Kylie starts crying.

"What is wrong with Tess?! Someone should tell me, this isn't easy for me at all." He says toning his voice down now.

"I think Tess should tell you herself. It's not our right to tell you. Once she's out she will tell you." Ruba says rubbing his shoulder.

"I'll go see my mum for sometime." He says walking to the counter.

"Okay!" Ruba says as she turns to Kylie "It's okay Kylie. It's not your fault and you didn't have to tell him."

"I know that, but I feel bad for him. He deserves to know." She says wiping away her tears.

"Your too kind hearted" ruba says shaking her head. Kylie gives her a little smack making them both laugh.

"Shouldn't we call Tess' mum?" Kylie asks.

"Oh yeah. I complete forgot." She says laughing. "I'll go call her now." She says pointing towards the door.

"Okay I'll go to bathroom and ill be here when you come back." Kylie says walking towards the bathroom that was a few steps from where they were seated.

Dave's POV
"Hello, good day. I'd like too see my mum. She came in yesterday. Mrs Olivia. "

"Yes I remember, she is awake now actually!" She says with a bright smile.

"Can I go see her now?" I asks drumming on the counter.

"You know her room dear?" She asks raising her pen up.

"She I do, thank you!" He says walking towards the room.

Knock knock...
"Come in" I can hear my mum's faint voice.

"Hey mum!" I say sticking my head into the room to look around.

"My baby!" She says sitting up.

"How are you mum?! I'm happy too see your awake now !" He says with a wide smile.

"I'm great my darling! Why aren't you at school?!" She asks frowning.

"No mum I didn't skip school, I had to bring Tess to the hospital. " I say sadly.

"Isn't that not the young lady you brought in yesterday? " she asks still confused.

"Yes mum" he says with great sadness.

"Well what happened?!"

"She's sick and no one wants to tell me. They want her to tell me and I just want to know so I can let prepare myself for what's next." He says finally taking a breath. "I love her mum." He says running his hand through his hair.

"Did my baby just say he loves this girl?" She says trying to brighten up the mood.

"I do mum!" He says starting to get teary.

"Oh sweetheart, come here!" She says pulling him into a big hug. "It's okay darling she'll be fine." She's says ruffling his hair.

He laughs "thanks mum"  he says wiping his eyes.

"Hello? Mrs Olivia?"

"Tess?" Dave yells as he runs up too me and places his lips on mine and I can't help but laugh.

"Oh your okay!" He says searching  my face.

"Yes I'm fine!" I say laughing

"Tell me what's going on! Please!" He says let's his eyes burn into mine.

"Dave." I say placing my hand softly  on his cheek." I have cancer."

"What?" He says shaking his head.

"It's okay." I say lightly rubbing his cheek. "Don't worry. "

"How can't I worry Tess, I love you!" My heart aches. I love him too and this just has to happen to me.

"Dave!" I start of but stop when I hear sniffing. I turn over to see Dave's mum crying. "Oh Mrs please don't cry." I say walking towards her.

"It's just beautiful.. The two of you." She says smiling and cupping my cheek as I hold her hand and close it in between my neck.

"Thank you." I say blushing as I feel Dave's arm hold my waist.

"You should rest mum. We will come back soon!" Dave says kissing his mum's forehead.

"Love you darling. Bye Tess dear!" She says as we both wave and head out.

He takes my hand and I lean my head on his shoulder. "Mum!" I yell as I see her sitting patiently waiting for me bit with her hands shaking.

"Oh darling" she says getting up and running towards me. I join in and we meet half way there. "Are you okay sweetheart?"

"I'm fine mum. Same thing again just that I kind of went unconscious today." I say with a half smile.

"Oh. What did doctor frank say?" She asks.

"Well there's a treatment they are working on and they want me to take part of it, it may not completely cure me but it gives me a longer time."

"Oh that's great honey!" She says putting my hair behind my ear.

"Oh Tess!" Kylie and ruba yell as they run towards me. "Thank god and congratulations." Kylie says and ruba nods as they both smile widely.

I turn around and meet eyes with Dave. I walk up to him smiling. "See I told you it would be okay"

"I just don't want to lose you." He says twisting my hair playfully. I start blushing and I look away so he probably doesn't notice.

"Tess?" He says holding my chin and turning my face to look at him.

"Dave?" I say with confusion all over my face.

"Be mine?"

"What?!" I ask in shock.

" I want you to be mine. I don't care whether you are going through cancer or not. I know what I feel with you. Please be mine. My girlfriend." He says making my eyes tear up.

"Yes!" I yell making everyone around us applaud and he places his lips on mine. I feel like I'm in a cliché movie with all the romantic lights or fireworks but this time there were actually none of that.

"Okay all of you! You've already missed half a school day so let's just round this up and go get lunch!" She as smiling.
