Chapter six- The Forest

We walked through the forest, hand in hand. We didn't speak, being in each other's presence was good enough.

The journey towards the spot in which i'd spent most of my time was just up ahead, but you had to cross a river to get to it.

"This never gets old" I told Finn as we approached the river.

I let go of his hand and told him to only set where I step.

I fluently jumped across the steeping stones that I had made previously and I reached the other side. I looked back towards Finn to see that he had fallen in the water. 

I started having a fit of laughter because he was now drenched in freezing cold water. 

"Hey, shut up!" He said when he saw me laughing.

"I can't help it! You should see your face!" I said in between laughs.

I stopped and froze solid as soon as he splashed me with water

Now it was his turn to laugh

"Oh you're on, Wolfhard." I challenged.

After that,  we started to have a full on water fight.  I tackled him to the ground and he rolled over so that he was on top. We wrestled while laughing and we were both absolutely drenched.

I haven't had this much fun in ages. And neither had he.

"C'mon Hazel, let's quit fooling around. Show me this place that i've been so eager to see"

And so we got up and I started to shiver. He noticed this and so he put his dry jacket that he took off before we started fighting and put it over my shoulders. I looked up and smiled at him.

A short time later, we had arrived. A hammock hug in between two trees pretty high up, and on one on the trees there was a ladder. It was at the top of the mountain, so it had an astonishing view of the forest down below.

"It's pretty simple, but I come here whenever I want to escape into another world (by reading) instead of the one that i'm in. It works most of the time, except when i'm upset. If i'm upset then I either cry it out or scream at the top of my lungs. And the best part is, no one can hear because you are in the middle of the woods." I explained.

"Jeez Hazel you sound like a serial Killer" and I laughed.

"No but all jokes aside, this is awesome" He said.

"Wait until you see the view" I said.

We climbed up and sat on the hammock, but because it was pretty small we had to lean into each other so that we didn't fall off.

Finn put his arm around my shoulders and looked down at me.

"Do you come up here a lot?" He asked

"Well it is my favourite place in the entire world, Wolfhard. I know it may not seem like it, but I have quite a lot to be upset about."

"Oh yeah? Tell me about it." He said as we laid down. My head was on his chest and I could hear his heartbeat . It was beating really fast, as was mine. 

I ranted to him about how I was being pressured into things that I didn't want to do, like go into modelling. I told him about the different books that I had spent my time reading and all of the failed relationships that I had had previously. He told me about the cast and his band and how he hates the paparazzi because he feels really anxious around them. He told me about stories when he  was younger and I realised how happy he was as a kid, having a normal family with normal siblings. We talked about serious things like anxiety and how he is really scared of it and I told him that I was too. It turns out we had a lot in common. 

"Hey. Can I tell you something?" He said as he sat up.

"Yeah, anything." 

"You are nothing like I thought you'd be"He whispered, a couple of inches away from my face. 

"Is that a good thing?" I said with a smirk. 

my heartbeat was uneven, all I could think about was the closing distance between us. "Yeah. Yeah I guess it is Hazel."

And then we kissed.

It wasn't simple, but it wasn't complicated either. It was perfect.

We lost track of time. But that didn't matter. I swear, I heard Finns phone ring but he didn't care. All that mattered in this moment in time is the two of us.

Eventually, we pulled away from each other, breathless.

"Wow." He said.

"Yeah, wow indeed" I managed.
