Narrators POV
"Come on Jack! You can do it!" Mark encouraged. Kneeling down and widening his arms making the stupidest happy face he could. Treating Jack like a baby."Fookin hell Mark! I'm not a baby!" Jack yelled at Mark, followed by a laugh from both of them. "I'm just learning how to walk again!" Jack chuckles. Staring at Mark with a mischievous glare. Mark remaining to kneel with open arms at the end of the support bars for Jack as he balanced on the bars, attempting to walk. Moving one leg slowly at a time, but keeping his grip on the poles shuffling without letting go. Mark just laughed and continued to baby talk him.
Jacks coach laughing along with them as she followed beside Jack, outside the bars. Monitoring his progress."You've made it 10 meters Jack. You've beaten your previous record!" She encouraged. Writing notes on her clipboard of his progress. Jack grinned at his accomplishment. He continued to walk with shaking legs from effort.
"Well, while we have time. I don't want to keep you held up after this session, you can go home. I will tell you your next steps" Jack turns his gaze onto her as they continue to walk at a slowly, steady pace. "I will recommend that you walk as much as possible. But don't walk for too long. You'll know your limit." She explained. Jack nodding that he was taking in the information. "We will provide you a walking frame-""My baby has grown up into a grandpa!!" Mark blurts out, cutting her off. No laughter in sight from either of them making Mark gulp. Jack blurts out a laugh.
"Oh shut up Mark! Or else I'll bore you with my grandpa stories of when I was your age" Jack speaks in the oldest sounding voice he could.
"Oh no! Not the stories!" Mark acts sarcastically scared as possible. Making Jack cringe.
"Will I get to sit on your knee while you tell me stories?" Mark continues to use sarcasm and laugh."What do you think I am? Fookin' Santa Claus?" Jack laughs. Mark laughing back. "You'll sit on my lap. But... Better watch out for my walking frame" Jack bursted out laughing. Mark falling over in a laughing fit. The coach seemingly not impressed. Jacks smile drops into a blush of embarrassment. He apologises for both himself and Mark.
"Continuing... We will provide you a walking frame that you will alternate between with your wheelchair. You will use the walking frame as much as you can and eventually stop using the wheelchair when you feel ready." She says. Jack nodding again that he understood.
"Other than that, your progress is great. You have full feeling in your legs but just need to keep practicing for full usage of your legs again. You should be walking in no time, if you follow what is instructed of you that is. We will give you paperwork with exercise to do while you sit down like leg lifts, etc. For you to follow." She says. Mark bringing Jack his wheelchair that Jack gladly accepted and sat down in. Sweat dripping down his chest and soaked into his shirt. Mark wheeling him to the car before going to collect Jacks walking frame.
----Marks POV
"So, how does it feel to be able to start walking again?" I ask Jack as I drive back to the hotel with him in the passenger seat. Placing a hand on his leg."It feels good I guess. Means you don't have to do everything for me." He laughs with a tease. I pull a pouty face and pretend to sniffle as if I was going to cry.
"Okay I'll let you do some stuff for me still." I pretend to perk up. Making him chuckle."Well, when we get back I need to go into the club again and get it ready so when it re-opens we are ready and have everything we need to" I explain. Jack nods.
"Do you want any help?" He asks.
"Jack, you are still getting better. You're not fully ready yet to do everything as normal again" I chuckle sadly. I knew his gaze fell away from me without me even looking.
"Oh, baby. I didn't mean it meanly. I just don't want you injuring yourself or making it worse." I tell him. Making the situation worse.
"Okay look, I'm terrible at wording things. But look, I have something you can do for me. You can tell me what you think needs changing in the strip club. Because I know it hasn't been re-modelled in about 4 years, which is too long. You have a great eye for those sorts of things, so you can tell me what you think needs changing. Anything you think needs changing or adding" I tell him. He smiles making me mentally sigh with relief. Saved.
He grabs my hand from on his leg making my heart speed up beating. Threading his fingers between mine. His hand warm and gentle.
I mentally slap myself thinking he was going to put my hand somewhere else.We turn into the driveway down the side of my hotel building, stopping and parking in the staff car parking.
Before getting out, I take a moment, just to admire Jack."I love you, Mark" he says in a low voice. His eyes looking down at our hands with some sort of upset in his eyes. Our hands laying on his leg as his other hand plays with the top of my hand, tracing each vein and bone in my hand with his finger tip.
"I love you too, Jack" I say, returning the hold. A little worried. "You know what? Let's worry about the club another day. Let's just sit and cuddle on the couch in my apartment and watch some Netflix. Just some us time, relaxing, that won't lead to anything more than just that." I ask him.
"That sounds nice. Thanks Markimoo" Jack says. He lifts my hand to his lips, pressing them against my hand. I smile and shiver at the feeling of his warm lips on my skin.
