The Knock

Chelse had left and I was all alone at home now. I decided to surprise Aunt and Uncle by cooking dinner. When they come home from work they will be really tired. I was preparing lamb meat, curry rice, salads and cheese sauce. My mind was so wrapped up I didn't hear the light knock in the room opposite the kitchen, the lounge.

When I heard the knock my heart raced a bit. My legs shaking and trembling I neared the window. A man was standing by the gravel path on our porch. His face was hooded with a black jacket.

He was starring directly in my eyes and fear coursed through my entire body and I became paralyzed. I grabbed for my cell phone to call the police but as I dialed the number he had vanished. My whole body was shaking.

"Who is that man? "

"What was he doing by my house? "

"Is he the same man from my nightmare?"

All these questions were swirling in my mind. I was really confused. When I heard the door opening is when I snapped back to reality. Aunt and Uncle were back home.

"Good evening Rose, how are you feeling?", he asked walking to the kitchen.

"Evening Uncle, I'm feeling better than this morning, thank you "

Aunt came in the lounge were I was and softly kissed my cheek.

"Rose are you really feeling alright?, you look really pale....what happened?"

I still did not want to tell then about my nightmares and dreams. So I did what I could...I half lied.

"Yes yes I am" I told her plastering a fake smile on my face.

"I just watched a silly horror film in the afternoon that's why I'm pale and all jumpy".

"I warned you about watching those things, they will give you heart attacks".

Uncle was always against watching horror movies, he didn't like them at all.

"Can we eat now I'm really hungry" I said trying to change the subject.

We sat at the dinner table and I served the food. We all ate heartily savouring each bite until our plates were licked clean.

"Uuuuuumm Uncle when you drove in did you see a person coming from our porch?"

"No I didn't Rose, why? Was someone there?"

"No no I must have imagined seeing someone there".

I quickly dismissed the story waving my hand.

Aunt and Uncle thanked me for the deliciously tasty meal. They actually volunteered to do the dishes since they thought I wasn't feeling well. I went back to my room and grabbed my phone. I had to tell Chelsea what had happened.

I called Chelse and we talked for hours. She thought it was time I told Aunt and Uncle. I knew I had to tell them sooner or later. I kept telling myself they are just nightmares but the more I told myself this the less I began to believe it. Frustrated I turned off my night lamp and went to bed.
