A Nightmare's Reality

The Breakdown

I started down the road going home. Going back to my childhood neighborhood had left me dumbfounded. I really felt like crying and my heart felt really heavy. There was only one person I could go and talk to that crossed my mind. Zack! So I decided to call him.

"Rosie, hey"

"Hey Zack, sorry for disturbing you but are you busy?"

"No don't worry about it, is everything ok?"

"Please come pick me up I really need to talk to you"

"Sure where exactly are you?"

"St. Columbus street, near the Everly's coffee shop meet me there".

"Ok I'm already on my way".

I really felt like Zack understood me. We had been childhood friends anyways so he would best understand. And we also lived in this same exact neighborhood. I went inside the coffee shop. It was one of my favorite from childhood.

I had really missed the smell of its fresh hot cross buns. As I entered the shop my nostrils were hit by that familiar smell of hot freshly brewed coffee and the faint smell of sweet sugar cupcakes that dad always used to buy me when I got mad at him. The smell was so sweet that you could taste the cupcake before even having it.

I took a seat at a privately closed area. I ordered a creamy caramel latte and my favorite cupcakes. I used to call them monsters cakes because they had a monster face for the icing. I saw Zack enter the shop and I signaled him were I was sitting.

"Hey"

"Hey Rosie, are you okay?"

"I won't lie so no I'm not okay".

"You sounded really urgent so I drove here as fast as I could".

"Thank you for coming it means a lot to me and yes it's kinda urgent".

"Ok but why are you here, I mean our childhood neighborhood".

"Well that's the thing actually, yesterday I had one of my 'dreams' and I memorized the way the man went and it ended on my childhood street.

I let out a frustrated sigh and I could feel my vision clouding with tears.

"I also have a strange feeling that my mother is out there somewhere I know it sounds crazy but I feel like this man holds a strong link to my mother".

"I'm really sorry Rosie, this all must be really hard for you".

Before I knew I had my hands wrapped around her and she was breaking down in front of me. I took our order and left with her for my car. We stood outside with her in my arms breaking down like a small child and I was privileged to be the one to sooth her.

"It's gonna be ok Rosie, and I promised to help you with all this so I'm with you all the way and if it's your mom we have to find we won't give up till we do".

"Thank you a lot, I really need a friend like you always".

We got into his car as soon as I was calm. I had not really stopped shedding tears. I started sipping on my hot drink. That's when something suddenly clicked in my mind.

"Zack...Yes!"

"Yes what Rose?"

He said looking at me with a lost and confused expression. I smiled a little for once in a while before I answered. He really looked cute when he cocks his head to the side and looks all goofy.

"Yes I will be your girlfriend".

He looked at me with a blank expression then he suddenly through his hands around me.

"The wheel take the wheel!!!"

I half yelled in between laughter.

"You've made me the happiest guy in this earth today. It's like the best news you have told me the whole day. I can't believe you are mine now, I can't tell you how long I've waited for this day Rose".

I noticed that he wasn't going to shut up and he will keep rumbling about how much he likes me and complimenting me so I did what anyone else in my position would do. I gave him a peck on the lips. It took him by surprise he instantly shut his mouth.

"I knew you weren't gonna shut up so I did the one thing that would make you".

"You are so evil".

He said giving me a half smile like smirk. I laughed heartily. He made me forget my worries a bit only a bit I repeat. We spent the rest of the journey talking about our childhood memories like the day when we were at the beach and he put sand in my little Barbie doll's hair. I was so pissed I took a bucket of sand and poured it on his head.

The rest of the ride we talked about nothing in general. We were just talking like the little kids we used to be before we had to face reality. He pulled up on my driveway.

"Thank you love, a lot. I'm so happy to be your girl friend now and I know you will always be there for me".

"Anything for you my queen, I will come pick you up for school tomorrow if that's ok with you".

I nodded my head in response. What did I do to deserve him? We just stared at each other for a while. I hugged him goodbye and a kiss on the cheek but he wouldn't let go.

"Uuhhm Zac I have to go home now remember "

"Oh yeh, sorry , Bye👋🏼.

He said blushing a little. I left the car and ran inside...
