Magic is a form of supernatural mental energy that most Beings possess in the world of Softshine Saga.
This, combined with Chi, the physical life energy that ALL living things have, forms Mana.
Both Chi and Magic have amazing properties and are essential for living Beings to live in one way or the other,  but they often have specific purposes in their utilty.

Magic:Magic( or Psonics, if you want to be a little scientific) is used to tap into otherworldly abilities such as Elemental usage and Teleportation.
It is widely considered to be the "better" of the two energy sources, as Chi's attributes are much more simplistic, but unless they are apart of the core-baring Specter or Golem Races, both aspects are nesscary for survival.Often a creature drained of magic become reduced to a vegative state, if not killed outright, unless they can replenish it through food or a Magical Art.

Chi:Chi is the raw, physical energy that keeps physical Living Beings moving and active.It can be used in a number of ways, such as offensive bursts of energy, or it could be an effective defensive method of rejuvenating near dead allies, but it's main function is to allow Living Beings to thrive and perform actions.

Mana:Combine both energy types togetother and you will end up with Mana.Almost all living Beings possess this energy, but it's exceeding rare to use it in its unadulterated state.Only the Demi-Divine, Under Demons, and a few exceptable Normal Beings can have access to its full capabilities and even they have to be cautious, as full use of Mana can result in the users utter demise.

Magic, Chi, and Mana are all common life sources in the world of Softshine, even if Mana can't regularly be used in it's raw form.Essence,however, is a form of energy that is completely seperate from its previous iterations.
Exclusive only to strictly Non Living Beings, Essence encompasses the Entity that possesses it.Instead of using a physical body to maintain functions like thought and movement,the Essence is the sole resource required.No brain, Chi, or Magic is required.Essence is such a rare form of energy that those who possess it are regarded as feeling "like death".

Essence: Essence is still relatively vague in nature, as very few Beings seems to have it and (until recently) the ones that do aren't willing to intergrate into a civilization of any kind.What is known is that it is another form of supernatural energy that can be used in all the way that Mana can be used and more.Arts like Teleportation, Curses, and Healing are not beyond an Essence weilder, if they  do not lack the mental capacity to use such abilities.Speaking of mental capacity, the main difference between Essence and Mana is that Essence can serve as the full consciousness of an Entity, while Mana users must rely either on a brain or a Core to maintain their cogntive abilities.
Thus, the Essence users that is known in the world of Softshine rarely use physical bodies at all.The full limitations of Essence is currently unknown, but from the research that have been conducted on Essence-based Beings, it seems that there is atleast one vulnerability to possessing it-Only exceedingly simple minded creatures appear to possess it.Not to say they are "stupid", of course- their abilty to retain knowlege is virtually unparalleled- but they appear to lack the capacity to develop complex desires like ambition and jealousy.
Thus, once their thought process is discovered, they can be much easier to deal with.

Hue Mans, Kogres, Star Cherubim, Horne,etc.

Examples of Beings that have Essence: Monsters, Celestials,True Demons, High One(possibly.) etc.
