"for he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go"
- psalm 91:11

Heidi sat speechless, still in the corner with tears running down her face. She covered her mouth with her hand to keep quiet. If the Sins and Lewis were scared of this person, then they must be way worse than they were.

The figure stood tall; it wasn't hard to tell that he was taller than any of the Sins. He seemed to be surveying the room, his head turning back and forth. Maybe he was looking for the Sins, or maybe he was looking for her. Heidi didn't know.

Finally, his head flicked over in her direction. He stepped slowly, cautiously over to her. She covered her face, more tears slipping from her eyes. She felt weak for crying so much.

He stopped right in front of her. Getting on his knees, he sat on heels, looking at her intently. Heidi could make out where his nose and eyes were but she couldn't see anything else. It was too dark.

He reached out to her as she peeked through her fingers like a child. He lightly held her wrist, lowering her hand away from her face. As he did this, the room filled with a pale light, allowing the both of them to see.

His face was like a child's. Sweet and innocent. Pure almost. His hair fell delicately across his forehead in dirty blond strands, but, unlike the Sins, Heidi saw no horns sticking out from his hair. His head was tilted slightly to the side, and his lips were curved into a small frown of concentration. His clothes were a sort of off-white colour, and around his waist was a belt that held sheathes with long swords in them.

What struck Heidi the most about this stranger, however, were his eyes. They were an icy blue. They weren't red, and that's what made her confused.

His lips curved into a small smile as he reached up with his hand, using his thumb to wipe away her tears before lightly cupping her cheek. He felt warm against her freezing body. "Don't be afraid, love," he whispered in a silky voice, and Heidi instantly felt a calmness from his voice, a sense of peace that she hadn't felt in a long time.

"Who are you?" Heidi barely managed to choke out that question as he pulled his hand away.

He sighed slightly, before giving her another smile. "They call me lots of things," he told her, and it made her think of her first encounter with Lewis. "But, my name is Lachlan."

Heidi hugged her knees tighter. "Are you here to take my soul too?"

"No," he chuckled. He stood up to his full height, before offering Heidi a hand up. She paused and hesitated, but placed her hand in his. He pulled her up with ease, and he towered over her. He took a step back when he noticed her discomfort at their proximity. "I'm here to help you."
