emilyily open the door rhett!

Rhett read the messages over and over again as the train bounced beneath him, still baffled as to why he redownloaded Instagram again in the first place. Maybe he wanted to see if his friends were doing okay, but as soon as he opened the app he received the notifications of a long strong of messages from Emily.

Apparently Azari had been devastated by his disappearance, becoming reclusive and straying away from her friends. Rhett didn't realize he meant that much to her, but despite the guilt that bubbled within him, he barely regret leaving.

He was never the best at handling the negative words of others, let alone himself. Losing the boxing match that he had been training years for broke him.

He was still surprised that Emily was able to find him. In fact, it was Sophie that had found out where he lived. When he opened his apartment door to find the two, the little girl had burst into tears and hugged his torso tightly.

She was sorry for all the mean things she had ever said to him, and if he were to ever hurt himself she would have been heartbroken. Rhett thought his heart had turned to rock since he went under, but he ended up hugging the girl and forgiving her.

Rhett lost everything after the match. He wanted to escape all of the hatred, so he sold his house and moved. No longer having a job, he was soon living like a young college student. His life was falling apart.

Emily offered to take him to Elvendale. He could stay there.

Most would find it suspicious that a tall man was sneaking around with two minors, but luckily the Jones girls lived in a remote area of the countryside. Sophie kept a tight grip on Rhett's hand as Emily led them through the dark, the quietness of the night unfamiliar to the city boy.

They stopped in front of a large oak tree, its roots spanning beneath the ground below them. Emily held up the necklace situated around her neck, green eyes glaring with determination as she held it out to the bark.

"They should be at the Treehouse, making lunch," Emily informed as Rhett blinked away the blinding sunlight. He stared in awe at the colorful scenery of the foreign land, gasping as winged creatures flew overhead.

Laughter could be heard from inside the hollow bark, and Emily knocked on the door with the force of a calvary. Sophie smugly glanced up at Rhett, crossing her arms in accomplishment. Shouts sounded as a soft breeze blew by, ruffling Rhett's black hair.

"I got it!"

"No, I got it!"

A clatter sounded as objects fell, and suddenly the door swung open to show two heaving elves, still clawing at one another. Cronan and Farran halted as Emily cleared her throat, gesturing to the third male behind her. Rhett waved sheepishly, and elves sprung apart with wide eyes.

"Oh, um-"

"Azari your friend is here!" Farran screamed up the staircase, ignoring Cronan's glares as he continued on. "It's nice to see that you're okay, dude!"

The earth elves stepped away from the doorway as several set of feet could be heard bounding down the stairs, everyone curious as to who Farran was talking about.

Rhett caught sight of red hair, and stared at the girl as she walked up to the doorway. She looked outside in curiosity, freezing when she caught sight of the man. After a few moments she smiled, shouted his name, and threw her arms around his neck in glee.

"Hey, Azari."
