A old man named Garry was on his deathbed. He led a pious life and was known his generosity. A pure hearted fellow who made a mistake to take birth in this day and age, his close associates were saying now.
At this last moment of life, however, he was weeping like a child. Not because he was going to die, but he wasn't able to make difference in the world.
Poor old man, in his youth, served in NGOs and other charitable trust to help people. When he entered his middle age, he donated a chunk of his wealth to needy. All his life he was helping people.
This pious deeds, however, were not his supreme goal. He wanted to make a difference in the world. In terms of transforming hearts of the people and make them better human beings.
But he failed badly, this was his biggest regret. "Not even one single person, I was able to transform." Garry sobbed.
"Come to think of it." As if a train of realization coming to his mind. "Only if I had changed myself first, looking at my example my family could have changed. Looking at the example of my family, my area could have changed. Looking at my area, city could have changed. Looking at the city, state could have changed. Looking at the state, country could have changed. Looking at the country, the world could have changed." The train of realization all of a sudden stop. "However, that's 'only if' now. It's too late to think about it."
Moral: Mahatma Gandhi once famously quoted: Be the change you want to see in this world. When we see inequities around us happening every now and then. We all, as sensitive human beings, want to bring change in the world. Not many people though want to be the change instead of willing to bring the change. Isn't charity begins at home?
