As the truck drives away, I walk back to the tiny little barn house on the corner of the street while I see tears dropping down on my dusty brown shoes. I go to my room to think about what just happened. Once I'm there I start thinking, why didn't Dad tell me the truth? Why was Thein crying? Why did they just leave me here? And who where those people with those armbands? It just doesn't seem clear to me.
"What was that? There It was again," I say quietly to myself.
"I think It's coming from the back," I say.
I walk to the back door knowing that It probably wasn't anything. I look out the back door.
"Nope nothing," I think to myself.
Then I hear a strange bang. I walk into the kitchen arming myself with a kitchen pot I found on the kitchen bench, Then I open the door that leads to the kitchen pantry.
"Ahhhhhhhhhhh!," I scream in panic, I see two people armed with one of my Dad's spatula that he made and the other with a butter knife.
I stop screaming, they do too. I see one with short dark hair and green eyes. The other girl doesn't look like she's from here, she has curly blond hair that has been put into a neat braid. I also notice that she is wearing a pink bracelet. The other one is too.
"Who are you, where did you come from and why are you in my house?" I shout. They look at me funny.
"This is your house?" The girl with the braid says.
"Yes this is my house!!" I say trying to come myself down.
"Sorry about that my name is Elizabeth please to meet you," the other girl stares with confusion, she looks at me strangely like she's seen me before. Then I see Elizabeth budging her arm to try and make her talk.
"Ummmmm," says the girl.
"My name is Kim but Elizabeth doesn't pronounce my name right so she calls me Kim without the G sound," says Kim.
"Well my name is Thuy but why are you in my house anyway?"
"Wait hang on how do you pronounce your name?" asks Elizabeth trying not to look dumb.
"It's Thuyyy," I answer, "Thuyyy" I yelled once more.
"Jeez you don't need to yell," says Kim while blocking her ears.
"Sorry," I said.
"That's ok but why are you here home alone? I've been wondering this since I met you," Kim asked.
"Umm I wasn't alone that long, just for a minutes ago my father and brother left in a truck with other people holding guns," I said quietly. For some reason Kim started whispering to Elizabeth. I felt jealous, I don't know why.
"Hey Thuy?" says Elizabeth,
"No it's Thuyyy," I corrected her.
"Sorry, can I just call you Sky? Instead of Thuy," asked Elizabeth.
"Huh, why?" I asked.
"It's just I felt like that name suits you and that also helps me make things easy," says Elizabeth.
"Well I guess," I say.
"So Sky do you know where your father and brother is?" Elizabeth asks.
"Um I'm not really sure," I say with confusion.
"Well um Sky, I don't know how I'm going to say this but It seems to me that your father and brother could have gotten conscripted," says Elizabeth trying not to feel bad.
"Wait what does that mean?" I ask.
