Y/N's POV:
I was silent the whole ride. I thought about the cleansing. I've never seen what they have done there, but I knew that John will be present. I felt such annoyance even thinking about him, and at the same time so much hate.
The car stopped suddenly and that made me aware of my surroundings finally. The doors were opened and both of the cultists forced us to move forward. Around us were many other hostages, and peggies right beside them, making sure that no one gets to escape. The hostages all seemed to be angry and scared, especially two of them who were in the same car as I was. Everywhere in the area were bliss barrels, which made my view look blurry and sparkly. This must be another way to get into people's heads.
Little further of me was this small lake, where already some sinners were to be "cleansed". The cultists hold on to the sinned ones, who stood up from the water like they have seen the light.
"The bliss." Michael, who was standing behind me said amused: "It's a beautiful thing."
Yet on the shore was him. When I saw John, all this hate that I felt just a second ago faded away and it turned into a mess of...everything. I felt this pressure on my chest, like it was suffocating me from the inside. I didn't understand what was that feeling. I hated him..right? He's done so many...horrible things. When I was forced to walk towards the water I kept staring at him, like he was some type of miracle worker. I only saw his side view, while he was giving his blessings to the brain controlled innocent humans. His posture was so confident, but his eyes' sadness showed right trough him.
The cultist Michael grabbed my shoulder again, as a sign to stop. I was standing only few meters of John, who hasn't even seen me yet. I assumed it was some other's turn to the blessing.
Few hostages were forced to the water again, with the same ritual. There were two types of people in the cleansing. First, the majority resisted and tried to fight or flee. They were shouting on the top of their lungs, like children who expected to get everything they wanted by screaming. And then there was the other side of the spectrum; The ones who praised to be "cleansed" and "saved" by Eden's gate. They were obviously here with their own will.
John gave his blessing to all of the hostages who were out their consciousness by the bliss. But one of the hostages started to act out of ordinary. He was still conscious and tried to struggle out of the cultist's hands. John smiled softly and laughed a little at the hostage and said.
"There's no need for fighting. You will say yes, one way or another." Small break before he continues: "Let the water wash away your sins." Then he quickly pushed him back to the water, the hostage couldn't resist anymore, when he was under the surface. It was a complete silence around me, when John kept the man without air, little longer than he should. Then he let the dead body float with the waves, until it sank to the bottom of the lake. John turned around with his cunning smile at us, and said.
"Well, glad that's over. Who's next?"
Next was my turn. Others, that went to water with me, did the same as the majority did before hand. While they were begging to be saved from the cult, I did the opposite, and stopped right beside John.
Slowly, I turned to look at him. He looked right back at me. His smile was still on his face, but when he looked into my eyes, his face started to relax, like he was thinking of something, then he looked downwards. I didn't know what I was doing. The bliss must have messed with my head. It felt like my eyes were locked on him forever, until Michael kept me going deeper to the lake.
I felt Michael's hands pulling me into the water. My surroundings started to blur out. But before I was completely out of vision , I looked once again at John, who apparently was looking at me too.
