A/N: What do you think of the name for the town? Is it good? Should I use a different name?

The above picture is just what I imagen the town to look like, but in the book it is currently Summer. Art is not mine. The name was the idea of a friend of mine. I cannot write their name because they do not have a wattpad account or anything else.

"Fenris, hide your wings," Yerathiel whispered to the large chamrosh as they neared Miralkol , one of the largest mountain villages, known for its wealthy mining industry. Fenris cocked his head to the side questioningly as she pulled up the hood of her travelling cloak.

"I don't know anything about this place other than that it is the richest mining village. They might not take kindly to sightseeing visitors," she explained to Fenris's confused face. Fenris barked happily and pulled his wings close to his body so they were all but invisible. They blended almost perfectly with his russet fur. Satisfied, she led the way past the village gates. She wrinkled her nose as the smell of smoke from coal fires, and oil and sulphur from the mines higher up the mountain, became stronger. Fenris sneezed loudly.

"Doggie!" a shrill voice screamed from behind them, causing both of them to jump and spin around. A little girl wearing a slightly tattered threadbare dress was gazing at the red chamrosh longingly. There were black smudges, maybe dirt or soot, covering her face. Her chocolate brown eyes shone through the smudges and she wore her long, dirty chestnut hair in a ragged ponytail down her back. The little girl noticed Yerathiel staring at her and blushed.

"May I touch him?" she asked tentatively. The little girl looked so sad and hopeful that Yerathiel could not help but allow her to pet Fenris. With an apologetic look to Fenris, which also told him to behave, she said, "You may, but only pet his head. He loves being scratched behind the ears." The little girl giggled happily and starting petting Fenris.

While the girl was pleasantly distracted, Yerathiel asked her questions about the town. After she had the information she thought she needed, she gave the hungry-looking girl a few silver coins for food and made her way to the nearest respectable inn.

================================================

Yerathiel recoiled her head sharply and nearly brought up the contents of her stomach. The stench was appalling. Nagia and Faraan never allowed her to drink any alcohol except once. They said it dulled the mind. The strong stench of mead and wine chased away any further thoughts.

The interior of the inn was rather quaint. Although the floor was covered in beer stains, blood and crumbs of meals, the tables that were unoccupied were spotless. A fire roared in the hearth on the far side of the room. She made her way over to the bar, Fenris at her side, passed several tables of finely dressed nobles and some of the mine managers. She looked over at a bunch of men in black cloaks with a red trim and blood-red designs who were huddled near the fire. They looked like mages. She turned back towards the bar and bumped headlong into a person in front of her.

'Ouch!' She exclaimed. Her hood slipped off her head, revealing her pointed ears.

'Ugh! Filthy elf!' the man slurred angrily, catching sight of her pointy ears. He wore the same robes as the men by the fireplace. His dark brown hair was damp, he was sweating profusely and his glossy eyes could not seem to focus properly. This man was obviously very drunk.

The man's comment made her blood boil. She clenched her fists to keep herself from doing something rash. She had always been a calm, cheery person, never getting worked up or lashing out at someone. She was the mediator among her friends whenever they fought. Generally the fights were between Akira and Leodrick. Fenris must have sensed danger from the drunkard because he was growling at the man.

The man pushed past her and staggered towards his friends by the fire, muttering a few more insults. Fenris eased his growling when he felt that the man was a safe distance away. Yerathiel took deep breaths to calm herself.

"Hush. It is alright now Fenris," She said softly, petting the chamrosh. She couldn't shake an uneasy feeling that this was not the last time she would see those men.

A/N: Anyone recognise the mages? Did you enjoy the little chapter even though there was not much happening? Don't worry, there will be a lot of excitement in the next chapter. I am open to any suggestions/constructive criticism that will help me improve my writing. Don't forget to vote and comment.
