A week had passed since Sophie's death. Because the killer wasn't caught yet, the body wasn't released, which angered her parents. Understandable of course, they wanted to bury their daughter. In school, things were awkward. All the students were sad, there was this atmosphere of fear and mystery. Everyone could be next. It's funny, when you hear story's like this on the news or in the newspaper, you don't pay much attention to it. Of course, you feel bad for their relatives, but you can't really imagine of how they must feel. You don't think things like this could happen to someone close to you. You think you're immune to things like this, until it happens to you. Only then, you start to realize how vulnerable you are.

Mr. Grimbald had offered himself as some sort of councilor, along with some other teachers. A lot of students, mainly women, went to see him. He offered me his help to, but I refused. It wasn't that I didn't like him, it was just, there was something weird about him. Like he didn't show his true self. And besides, I had Liz, she helped me a lot. We saw each other almost every day, most of the time, we just talked about random stuff like 'how was school' or 'how was work' or 'how is your family'. but we also talked about deeper stuff. We mainly talked about me. Not that my life was that interesting, but somehow she didn't like to talk about hers. And we didn't really talk about her work either because, you guessed it, it was classified. Also, when we would hang out for a long period of time, she would start to shiver or get nervous. Then she would fetch her bottle and drink from it. When I asked her what it was, she would just tell me it was her medicine.

One night, I had a somewhat traumatic experience. It was also the moment I found out more about Liz, and why she was so mysterious about who she was and what she did for work. I was walking home at night, I came from a party, but I didn't want to stay because I didn't want to be surrounded by a bunch of drunk idiots while I stayed sober. It wasn't probably the smartest thing to do, walking alone in the dark with a serial killer on the loose, but I just wanted to go home. I was walking on a hill near the docks when I was cornered by four guys. They looked at me with blood red eyes and evil grins. "It's not safe for you to walk on your own, you know." one of them said. "Let me take you home..." I looked at them, terrified. "Leave me alone, creep!" I yelled, but my voice was shaking. They laughed at me and came closer. They were smiling at me, their teeth visible. That's when I noticed they had large fangs. One of them, their leader I presume, grabbed me by my collar and dragged me towards him as he exposed my neck. That's when I heard her voice. "Let her go!" We all looked at the direction of the sound, and the one who was holding me started talking. "Well, good evening miss Cooper, out for a midnight snack?" She smirked at him. "What if I am?" "Let's make a deal" the guy said. "If you just let us do our thing, you'll get a piece of her as well." I was shaking with fear at this point. "It sure does sound tempting." She said, and I must say it was quite shocking to hear her say things like that. "But I have a better offer." She continued. "You pricks just piss off and leave her be, and I'll just let you walk away unharmed." "No thanks" the guy said. "Get her boys." The tree other men launched at her, and she fought them of like it was nothing. I mean, she really kicked their arses. It was a joy to see. Until suddenly, the leader of the gang grabbed me and swung me over the fence, holding on to my jacket. "Stop!" He yelled. "Or your friend dies!" The tree other members were lying on the ground, moaning in pain as Liz stood there, a little sweaty. "Let her go." She said. The guy looked at me with a grin on his face. "As you wish." And the next thing I knew, I was falling down, screaming in terror. That's when I saw Liz jumping after me, two giant bat-like wings came out of her back. And just when I was about to hit the surface, she caught me, and we flew trough the night sky, until we landed a couple of streets further, not far from my apartment.

I looked at her, she seemed exhausted. She had blood red eyes and fags. "You... You're a vampire." I stuttered. "Yes" she confirmed. "Excuse me for a moment, I have a phone call to make." She took out her phone to call a guy named Matt to tell him to pick up some garbage on the road we just stood. "What was that all about? Who are you exactly?" She looked at me and sighed. "Well, since you know I'm a vampire, I might as well tell you. I'm Elisabeth Cooper, I'm 280 years old instead of 28 and I'm an agent for VCRS, which stands for Vampire Control and Regulation Service. It's our job to keep vampires in check and regulate their lifestyle. Most vampires just want a normal life like everybody else. So we have blood banks all over the world, and we have centers where they can go when things get difficult. They can have psychological assistance whenever they need, all to make sure humans and vampires can live together in harmony. But there are some who disagree with this lifestyle, and it's my job as an agent to keep them under control, and when they do commit crimes, we go after them, like those guys who wanted to attack you." "So, do vampires bite humans, because I heard you mentioning blood banks." "We sometimes feed of of humans, but only with their consent. There are registered donors, most of the time, they are partners of vampires." "And the murders that have been happening, are those committed by vampires as well?" "We believe so, yes. It's the reason why I came here in the first place. We have a strong  suspicion they were committed by a cult named 'the children of Lilith'. They are a dangerous group of vampires who disagree with this lifestyle, they think of humans as walking blood bags. they believe that vampires should be superior to humans. The only problem is, no one knows who the members are, because they are very secretive." All this information had my head spinning, I couldn't believe that vampires were real. "Come, I'll take you home." Liz said as she hooked her arm in mine. "Oh, and before you ask: yes, vampires are able to walk in daylight, and no, we don't sparkle, in case you were wondering." I laughed at her remark. "Never believed that piece of crap anyway." I said. She turned her head towards me and smiled. "Good."
