annie stared at her shrink from across the room. annie had yet to utter a word since she stepped inside her new shrink's office since the last had given up on her. his name was victor rodriguez and dr.rodriguez decided to speak up after thirty-eight minutes of silence.
"so," dr.rodriguez started while flipping through his paper for annie's name "annie, why do you think you're here?"
annie was taken by surprise that he actually said something and he was up front with what he wanted to discuss. all the others would do is try to get her to do trust exercise or just remind her that they are still getting paid even if she doesn't talk. Mostly the second one though. dr.rodriguez was the first out of seven shrinks to say something when she went silent.
annie spoke in a quiet voice, so quiet he barely heard her himself "my mom told me i'm depressed."
"why would she say that."
in the same quiet voice, more like a whisper she replied, "because i discovered one hundred and seventeen ways to kill myself after i moved from place to place. so my so called family could move on from the past without dealing with it."
dr.rodriguez wrote a paragraph based off the one whisper that escaped annie's mouth. the buzzer placed on the table separating the two, ringed. Signaling that their forty-three minutes were up, dr.rodriguez sighed at himself for wasting so much time being silent with annie when he could have got a deeper understanding of her. all Annie did was confuse him. He had never met a person such as her, blunt but shy. such a strange mix to have. he held a hand up to annie and requested her in a nice tone, "annie can you please stay here for two minutes as i speak with your mother.
annie gave a stiff nod and watch him walk out the room then shut the door behind him. once he closed the door she quietly ran to the door and placed her ear on the door and heard small parts of the conversation.
"i'm giving her a higher dose prescription of anti-depressants--"
-
"how bad is it?" her mother questioned
-
"just give her these every five hours."
she heard shuffling from the opposite side of the door.
dr.rodriguez was on his was about to open the door when annie got up from her crouched position behind the door and moved to the middle of the room trying to focus what the conversation mentioned and form how the conversation went from what she heard.
dr.rodriguez walked in the wood covered office and told annie in an apologetic tone, "you can see your mother now, sorry if we kept you waiting so long."
annie didn't like her mother, she hated her in fact so when he called jen her mother her blood went bitter. she started to walk out the room, but once she reached the door she glared at him though he was the nicest shrink she had and mumbled, "she's not my mother." then, annie slammed the door behind her.
annie knew the rest of her day would be bitter just like her for the thought that someone would consider jen to be her mother. especially after what he said to her.
