Rowan's POV)
Two days later, Scotty had gotten roped into some press things here in America, so I was alone at my apartment for the day.
It was a rainy day, so I didn't bother going out to find something to do. Most people find rainy days depressing, dreary, and just downright miserable. That wasn't the case for me, though. I loved the sound of rain on the roof, I loved the way the flowers and grass were more vibrant the next day, I loved the smell in the air as the rain came down, I loved the rainbows that came after.
For the entirety of the morning I had lazed around in sweats and one of Scotty's shirts, binging NCIS episodes on netflix, but eventually I got bored. I knew hanging out with Scotty was a no-go, so I decided to see what Red was up to.
Rowan: Hey dude, you doing anything today?
Red: Nope, when should I come over?
I chuckled at his message, he always knew exactly what was on my mind.
Rowan: Asap. Is it possible to die from boredom?
Red: Not sure, but I'm on my way if it keeps you from dying!
Rowan: Only if it keeps me from dying? :((
Red: No, dummy. I was going to come anyways
Rowan: Good
Red: *Red Gerard liked "Good"*I stood from my position on the couch, grabbing my paper plate from breakfast and carrying it to the trash before I headed back towards my bedroom to clean up for the day. I slid off the large T-shirt, swapping it out for a baggy gray sweater and a different pair of leggings with knitted socks to pull it all together. I didn't feel like doing anything with my hair, so I just flipped it up into a messy bun to get it out of the way. I didn't even bother with make up, it was a lazy day.
As I finished brushing my teeth, I heard my apartment door open, knowing it was Red since he was the only one other than Scotty and I that had a key.
"Hey Rowan, I'm here!" he called from the kitchen.
"I'll be out in a minute," I responded.
"I brought donuts"
"I'll be out now," I excitedly called back. I heard him laugh from the living room as I quickly made my way out to the food that he brought.
"Always food motivated, some things never change," he sarcastically sighed and shook his head, causing his strawberry blonde hair to shake a little as he did so. I sat on the counter, eating a cream filled donut (my favorite) as Red sat on the couch watching TV. I glanced over at him for a minute before speaking.
"You know, I didn't invite you over so I could just continue to watch TV and do nothing. Lets go do something!" I said enthusiastically. Red groaned and stood from the couch, dragging his feet as he walked back into the kitchen. I shrieked as he lifted me from the counter and threw me over his shoulder, carrying me towards the door.
"Red! Put me down!" I squealed.
"And why would I do that?" he asked.
"Because you love me and I'm your best friend," I whined.(Red's POV)
"Because you love me and I'm your best friend,"
She had no idea how true that was.(Rowan's POV)
Red and I ended up just driving around all day, not going anywhere in particular, just driving and talking. We did this a lot, it was peaceful and relaxing. At one point, we stopped to get an early dinner at a little restaurant about an hour away from my apartment. We walked into the small, somewhat dated establishment and sat down at a booth by the window. The rain was still pouring outside, creating a soothing tapping sound against the glass. I gazed out the window and admired the peacefulness of the moment.
"What are you looking at?" Red asked.
"Nothing really, just admiring the day," I replied, turning my head to see him staring at me. It wasn't just a normal stare though, it was more than that, more intense with more feeling behind it.
"What are you looking at?" I asked him.
"Oh - uh- uhm - just the menu," he stuttered awkwardly, a bright blush rising to his cheeks as he hastily picked up the laminated menu in front of him. I just shook it off and ordered my dinner, as did Red.
For the rest of the hour or so that we were there, Red seemed off. I didn't know what was wrong, but something was bothering him and I wanted to help him if I could. I more than owed him for getting Scotty there, and I wouldn't hesitate to do it anyways. As we stood up from the booth and walked out the door, I asked him.
"Hey Red, you seem upset about something. Are you good?"
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine," he responded, looking at his feet.
"I don't believe you. Seriously if you need to talk about something I'm here," I said, slightly more concerned.
"I said I'm fine, Rowan. Besides, this isn't something you could help with" A hint of anger pervaded his voice in his statement, causing me to stop walking. Over the last year he had come to me with all kinds of problems, some more awful than others, there was nothing I wouldn't try to help him with and he knew that. My curiosity got the best of me, and though I knew better than to pry, I did anyways.
"Red, there's nothing I can't at least try to help you with," I knew almost as soon as the words left my mouth that it was a mistake to open it in the first place.
"Oh yeah, Rowan? Well try helping me with this. I've been practically in love with you for the past year, yet you've been completely oblivious. I've been here when Scotty hasn't. I've held you when you cried. I made you laugh. I made you smile. And I mean really smile. You know what else? I broke up with Hailey three months ago, so don't even try to tell me that I can't do this because it is 'unfair to my girlfriend'. That's exactly why I broke up with her, Rowan, it wasn't fair to her that I was dragging her along while I had feelings for someone else. And what do I get in return for all of this? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Unless you count the girl I'm in love with constantly complaining about her boyfriend who never seems to be there for her while remaining completely unknowing to the fact that my heart breaks a little more every time you say his name. But you know what, I bring him all the way across the fucking globe for you to be happy. If that doesn't show you I love you, then I don't know what does. So if you think you can help me with this, then go right ahead. I'd like to see you try,"That's another thing I love about the rain. You can barely tell when someone cries.
