The drive was exhilirating. I could only feel the wind against my face and it was as if it was wiping my teard away. I wrapped my arms around Kai's torso, as if I let go, I would lose my tomorrow.
He pushed the limit and sped up down the empty road in the quiet neighborhood I lived in. It wasn't long til the vast ranges of fields passed by and the breeze felt cool around me.
"Put your hands up!" Kai shouted.
"What?!"
"Don't worry, it'll feel amazing."
"You must be crazy!"
He laughed loudly, "What?" he asked rhetorically.
With a breath, I slowly let go of him and allowed my hands feel the rush of air all around. I felt butterflies in my stomach and soon both my hands we up and my smile reached ear to ear. I let out a hushed cheer and giggles as we went down the road.
"KEANU ANTALI'I YOU BETTER HOPE THAT YOU'RE WEARING A HELMET OR I SWEAR I WILL WHIP YOU UNTIL YOU CAN'T-" "Mom," Kai spoke with a sigh as we walked in the house. He placed his helmet down on the table in front of him, grabbing the one I had as well with a smile. "This is my new classmate, Lilac."
The short woman with an assymetric haircut blinked and opened her mouth at the sight of me, then wiping her hands on her apron. "Kai, you didn't tell me you were bringing a guest over. I got paint all over me and-" "You look fine," my friend chuckled and walked over to his female parent to give her a kiss on the cheek.
"Lilac, this my beautfiul mommy." Kai introduced as he draped his arms over her shoulder. I smiled with a sniffle, "Hi, I'm-" "Oh dear, have you been crying?"
"Uh." My brows quirked and I turned to Kai who had wide eyes.
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?"
"NOTHING! I-"
"I SWEAR TO HEAVENS, MY SON IS NOTHING BUT-"
"No, no, he... he didn't do anything missus Antali'i. In fact, he helped me... uh," I pointed out as slowly my breathing got heavy. I huffed and felt my eyes water again, and soon the woman cooed at me and walked closer. "Oh baby girl, come on, mama's gonna help."
We walked deeper into the large house. The walls were white and there were plenty columns around the vast space. In truth, if it weren't for the homey items they possess, and the view I had of their kitchen, I'd think I stepped into a museum.
We sat on a curved island were the stools looked like pieces of art. Kai's mother washed her hands and started opening the stove and that was when, I realized she was making something for me.
"Mrs. Antali'i, you don't have to-" I started but simply got cut off with a shush.
"Here," she smiled as she handed me a cup of hot something. I smiled and gratefully accepted it, "What is it?"
"Horchata." Kai spoke proudly as he sipped on a cup of his own.
"It's what makes me feel better everytime I feel blue. Well that, and painting." she explained as I nodded in excitement.
"Oh, yeah, and my mother is such a big fan of your work." I spoke before taking a sip.
"Aww, thank you." She smiled. "And the feeling is mutual," Kai added turning to his mother, "Her mom's Bethany Sweeting. Well, Dahlberg, but you know..."
Her jaw hung low and she gasped, "You're her daughter?"
I gave a shy smile and nodded slowly.
"Oh my goodness! I love your mother so much. I practically watched all of her films. Gosh, I still even have a jacket from her first line of clothing!"
