The mountain ride was beautiful. I've missed riding in the mountains like this. IT was so peaceful. The meadow was so beautiful from the top of the mountain top.
The ride back down was just as pretty. The trail wasn't bad at all. I reach the barn and un-tack Whiskey and turn him out to the paddock. The paddock has always been Whiskeys favorite place on the ranch other then behind the cows. I walk over to the house and walk it to find my grandpa making dinner in the kitchen. "Hey Gramps." "Hey Sweetheart, how was your ride?" "It was amazing, Whiskey did so good." I smiled. "Where's mom and dad?" "In the living room," my grandpa said to me. I walk into find my mom and dad talking."Are you guys staying for dinner?" They look up at me and nod. "We have to leave right after." My mom said. "How was your ride?" My dad asked. "It was amazing!" I said as I walked over to where my grandpa has my grandma's records stash and put my favorite one in the record player. My grandma and grandpa met on the rodeo circuit. My grandma would sing at rodeos and my grandpa was riding bulls at almost every rodeo she was at. She always hated the idea of the danger my grandpa was in but she lived with it because she loves him. As I put it in I looked to my dad and said, "You'll have to come with me when you come home." I smile at my dad. "Diners ready!" My grandpa shouted at me from the kitchen.
We pile in to the kitchen and sit at the table. My grandpa sure does k or how to make some really good chili. "So Lexi, Whiskey was good for your ride right?" My grandpa asked. "Yeah he was! I was really surprised with the way he acted. "That's good I've had my stable hand riding him." My grandpa raised his hands in surrender so I couldn't interrupt him. All I could do was nod my head and accept defeat right there. My grandpa always wins arguments like that.As we finish dinner my dad says nine words that leave me with an emotionless center that strikes a pit in my stomache. "Well, I think it's time for us to leave." My mom looks twords me with wet eyes. I walk over to my mom and dad to give them one last goodbye. "Be safe okay!" I said looking up at both of my parents and smile trying to hold back the tears that are threatening to flood out. "Stay strong sweetheart." My mom said looking down at me. "I always am.: I said as a single tear glides itself down my cheek. My dad has tears in his eyes. My dad hardly ever cries. He's only cried one time in my sixteen years of life l. It was on my fifth birthday when my mom left and didn't come back for days. They say a man only cried when he's afraid of losing something they love. Losing mom was the biggest fear my dad has ever had, my mom has threatened to leave but never does. "Promise me you'll come back home so we can go for that ride okay dad?" I asked looking up at him. They both give me one last hug before they left. My mom let's go and then the moment came. The moment I've been dreading for years, the moment both my parents left me. I follow my mom and dad out to the truck. "Did you get everything?" My dad asked before kissing me on the forehead. I bod my head yes, "I love you. Both of you!" I looked at both my mom and dad.
I back away from the truck and turn to the porch. My grandpa is standing by the door. I walk up to my grandpa and turn around to watch my parents drive down the driveway. Just as tears where about to fall, my grandpa turns to me and says, "How about we get some ice cream?" I nod my head and walk into the house. I had deep hope that everything was going to be okay l, and tomorrow is going to be better then today. As I was about to go to sleep I look out the window twords the barn, something was off. The lights were on one second then they flickered off the next. I thought and thought and couldn't come up with a solution l. Putting the thought in the back of my mind, I fell asleep.
