Amelia felt a burning pain rising through her chest and lungs, spreading down towards her stomach. Amelia dropped her rifle and clutched at her body, covered the hole the bullet had left, penetrating through her skin. The bullet bounced off Amelia's rib, and nicked the side of Amelia's lung, causing it to bleed. Amelia's knees gave out, and she fell to the floor. She was struggling to breathe, gasping for air. Her skin went pale, and her vision became clouded. Soldiers came from everywhere to help her. Before she fell unconscious, she was picked up and carried away. She looked up at who was carrying her and despite her blurry vision, she knew it was Captain Wolfe. She blacked out shortly after.
Jade was busy planning out the next attack. The last had been a success, capturing the city of Homs. Jade had no idea that Amelia had been in the attacking forces. A knock came at the door leading into her office.
"Enter" Jade called, not looking up from her work. Into the room came a sergeant, wearing a Red Cross on his right sleeve below his unit patch. He saluted before he spoke.
"Ma'am it is my duty to deliver to you some news of the Syrian war." The sergeant pauses, thinking about how to move forward.
"Well get on with it Sergeant." Jade says, becoming irritated.
"It's about Pilot Officer Barrington, ma'am." The sergeant says with remorse. Instantly jades irritation clears, replaced with concern.
"Pilot Officer Barrington was involved in the recent attack. She was apart of the team that cleared and captured the parliament building in Homs. She was attempting to detain the leader of the Isis forces in Homs when she was shot. She is currently in intensive care, in an induced coma. Your have been temporarily stood down from your work, effective immediately, to be there when the Pilot Officer wakes. She is in a hospital in London, the closest equiped to treat the Pilot Officer. If you'll follow me Ma'am, I'll equip you for you flight." The sergeant finishes. He waits for jade to take it all in.
"Just give me a moment Sergeant." She says carefully. The Sergeant salutes and leaves the room. Jade silently cries, flashing back to when Amelia was in hospital several years ago.'...Suddenly, on the other side of the collapsed building, someone called out,
"Stretcher bearer!" Jade looked across, and saw it was a girl. With Amelia's hair colour. From this distance jade could see the blood. Without a second thought, she ran across to the medics who were lifting the girl onto the stretcher. Her chest was covered in blood, and her hands were covered in her own blood and dust. She was shaking, from shock. Amelia looked at her mum, and grabbed for her hand. Very shakily and weakly, Amelia said to her mum before she was rushed to surgery,
"Love you mum"....'Jade wiped the tears out of her eyes and left, following the Sergeant away.
