After several tense days of counselling, and some extensive rehabilitation workouts, Amelia was discharged from the hospital in London. She wasn't leaving until the next day, and jade was flying out that night, so jade and Amelia made the most of it by spending most of the morning and all of that afternoon walking the streets of London. Being in Australian uniforms made them stand out, and quite a few people were gesturing in their direction or looking at them as they walked past. The girls didn't take any notice of them.

Later on, after Amelia had said goodbye to her mum and watched her plane fly out, Amelia was sitting in a bar close by the airport. She was sitting there alone, drinking her bourbon in peace. Over all the chatter in the bar, Amelia heard the door open, and instinctively knew the person who had entered was after her. The hair on the back of her neck stood up. Amelia maintained her peaceful composure, ready to strike as necessary. Through the crowd emerged an Australian army uniform, with Captain pips on their rank slides. He smiled down at Amelia, looking at her through his clear crisp eyes.
"Pilot Officer Barrington, what a pleasure. May I?" He asks, gesturing towards the chair next to Amelia.
"Go for it captain Wolfe." Amelia replied coolly.
"Please, no need for formalities. How are you feeling?" He gestured towards her now healed wound.
"Hang on, how do you know about that?" Amelia enquires, obviously confused.
"Don't you remember? Probably not, you were out of it by the time I got there." He says, pausing to order drinks for himself and Amelia. Amelia just stares at him, waiting for him to continue.
"Alright, so, after you were shot, it was my sections helicopter that med-E-Vaced you out of there and back to a field dressing station. From there, you were flown in a C-17 to here for proper treatment. I held your bandages on you to stop the bleeding." The captain turns to receive his drink and pass Amelia hers.
"So you rode with me in your helicopter? And saved me?" Amelia says quietly.
"Yes and no. I rode in the helicopter, yes, but I didn't save you, I just provided the transport." He says, sipping on his bourbon and coke.
'He's modest too...' Amelia thinks to herself, turning red with the thought.
"Was it something I said?" Wolfe asks, noticing Amelia's change of colour.
"No, it's just, thank you." She says, before leaning forward and kissing his cheek.
'HOLY FUCK, I JUST KISSED HIM!' Amelia screams inside her head. Now the captain goes red.
"Don't worry about it, but your doctors are the ones you need to thank not me." He says, looking into his glass as if it held the meaning of life. He quickly changes the topic, keeping the conversation flowing.
"Where are you being sent?" Wolfe asks Amelia.
"I'm being posted into Afghanistan now, I'm taking on a more peacekeeping and humanitarian aid role within Kabul. What about you, where are you going?"
"I'm going to Afghanistan as well actually...." he says, smirking at Amelia. "But I'll be out on patrols as a marksman, I won't have a cushy job like some..." he says, laughing.
"Thanks!" Amelia says, moving to hit him playfully on his arm. He catches it and twists, turning Amelia around and catching both her hands behind her back, trapping her against his body.
"Real smooth Captain" Amelia says, rolling her eyes. She turns herself around in his arms and it suddenly becomes intimate. Amelia is wrapped in his arms, looking up into his curious eyes. Amelia bites her lip, anticipating what's to come next. The Captain moves his hand to Amelia's neck, and he slowly moves forward. Amelia follows his actions, before finally their lips meet. In that moment the world stood still. Amelia had no thoughts other than to soak up the moment while it lasted. Eventually, they separate, and sit back down at the bar. Wolfe orders two more drinks, turns to Amelia and says,
"That was amazing. We should totally do more of that." He grins.
"Yeah, totally." Amelia says airily, still lost in the moment. They spend the rest of the night together before eventually having to go back to their hotels.
"Tonight was fun." Amelia says.
"Let's catch up in Afghanistan yeah?" Wolfe says back, smiling.
"I'd love that." Amelia says, before kissing him again.
"Until then captain." Amelia says as she walks into her hotel. The captain just watches her go.
