brief introduction ~ harlee

"And that, folks, was Don't Stop by 5SOS- the all new Aussie boy band! We'll check out some more of their latest hits just after this break." The radio abruptly cuts to some lawyer commercial as I hit the off button.

Turning my attention back to the matter at hand, I twirl a bunch of hair around the curling wand, leaving it for a few seconds and letting go. I continue this action a few times, before setting the wand down on the black mat ahead of me. Now onto the next task: makeup. Don't get me wrong, I look pretty enough with a natural look. Luckily, I haven't had an acne breakout like most of the teenagers in my school so to be honest, makeup and I shouldn't go together. But it does, and it makes me look hotter than ever. I apply a few layers of mascara, before spreading a thin layer of liquid eyeliner on my top lids. Rosy pink blusher colours my cheeks and glossy lip gloss plumps up my lips. I smile at the mirror, extremely pleased at my reflection.

I stand up, observing my show stopping good looks and my cleverly put together outfit. The tube dress I'm wearing, with a white tube top and blue skirt decorated with daisies, comes together as one and falls perfectly to around mid-thigh area. Pastel blue and white platform heels adorn my feet, allowing me to tower above everyone else, but my long legs fit this quota anyway. My makeup- flawless as always and my accessories suit my outfit perfectly.

"Hey there, beautiful; looking stunning as always! With that shiny blonde hair, enticing blue eyes, oh, and that gorgeous figure of yours. Good luck with making all those boys gaga over you. Oh wait, they already are!" I giggle at the mirror, twirling.

Yes, I am a tad vain. And yes, I am talking to myself. But, come on, I am right. The boys at my school, all they need is a quick glance at me, and they're falling at my feet. I'm the one everyone swoons over; the kitten all the cats are dying for. And as long as I'm around, it's going to stay that way.

With graduation coming up in a few months, I better study hard. Let's just say, in terms of education, last year wasn't a good one. Getting a nerd to sit near you in each of the tests and copying off them is low, but it had to be done, otherwise I would've been made to stay behind a year or get moved by my Dad into some stupid private school. Dad wanted me to be as down to earth as I possibly can so enrolled me in a comprehensive, that's why I'm in Summerdale High, and not some 'snob central'. Well, it isn't actually that bad, because I have no one else to compete with. But, seriously, how could you compete with me?

My Dad's a business man. He owns this chain of five star hotels and a couple of five star restaurants too, but, although it means plenty of money, it does mean I hardly see him. He has to struggle to get home for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Birthdays etc. and because Mom's left us, and I never see her anymore, I'm usually home alone. A big reason why I have loads of parties.

I pick up my phone from the bedside table, taking a quick peek at my Twitter feed and so on. A bunch of new followers and random messages pop up, this is nothing weirder than usual.

"Ms Dean, John has driven your car into the front of the house!" My butler, Albert calls from the stairs.

"Coming Al!" I say, shoving my books, phone and other school must-haves into my tote bag before slinging it onto my left shoulder.

I step out of the door, to be met by Al standing smartly at the top of the stairs.

"Sleep well, Ms Dean?" He questions.

"Very well, to be quite honest," I reply sweetly, "And how many times have I told you to call me Harlee! You don't need to talk to me so formally when Dad's not around."
