I curled my body into a ball right as I hit the water, hardly feeling the sting of impact. Jaq made a huge splash to my left, and Justin nearly landed on top of me. I shoved him aside as I swam towards the rocky shore.

Large chunks of the Wither Storm fell around us, but I hardly noticed them. Jaq was a stronger swimmer than me, and was out of the water before I got to the edge. She helped me up, then turned and started away, not bothering to wait for Justin.

"Do you know...is there any chance he's not...?" her voice trailed off as she clambered over the rough stones that made up the ground.

"Jandro's dead, isn't he." Justin said quietly, brushing water droplets off the front of his armour.

I nodded slowly. "If he wasn't already, he will be soon."

From a little ways away, Jaq called back "Jesse, if he was...still alive...where would he have...oh."

Justin and I hurried to catch up with her, which wasn't hard. She was standing still and silent, looking at Jandro's inventory scattered across the uneven rocks.

Beside me, Justin let out a quiet despairing sigh. Jaq didn't say anything at first, but I could see her hands shaking as she approached the messy pile of items.

"No...no. Not him..." she whispered, dropping to her knees. "No..."

I sat next to her, draping my arm over her shoulders. She leaned into me, shaking as she wept. Her cries were the painful kind, the type of sobs that rip your throat and heart to pieces.

"Why did it have to be us? Why...why did he have to be part of this?" she murmured through streaming tears. I didn't know what to say, so I stayed silent, offering her consolation through my embrace alone.

"This isn't fair. This cannot be right. Him...dead, now? This...this isn't..."

Justin came up to her other side, gently resting his hand on her other shoulder. "Jaq...I'm so sorry."

She heaved a shuddering sigh, one that sounded almost more angry than sad. "Go away, Justin. You're not...I don't want to talk to you."

He didn't move away, though his brow crinkled in confusion. "I know you're sad, but I didn't..."

Jaq turned her head to the side to glare at him, and I edged slightly away. I should've known this would've come to light sooner or later.

"Yeah, okay fine, you didn't do anything. That's not what I'm talking about." She hissed, despair turning rapidly to anger, as it so easily can.

Justin held up his hands defensively. "Jaq, I don't understand...I know you were close, but what do I have to do with it...?"

With a frustrated shout, Jaq straightened up and shoved him roughly away, shouting furiously, "He liked you, you intolerable moron! He had a crush on you! He died before we could make up, because YOU had come between us!"

Justin froze, brown eyes wide. "What?! But he wasn't...I never..."

"You didn't realize? All the times he went to protect you, wanted to go with you, chose your side over mine..." Jaq snarled. Justin just shook his head, looking baffled and shocked.
