I feel slightly ill as Wednesday approaches and I know I will have to start school.

I know I have Brandon and Alysa there to help me make friends but I still feel nervous knowing I will be the new girl in a small town that rarely sees a new face.

Everyone has already established their friends when they were younger and I know I won't share those connections with anyone here. Not even my cousins.

As my 6:30 am alarm blares, I feel my stomach churn. I wish I could have just done online school. Why didn't I think to mention it to my Aunt Ruth? I mean I only have a little over half of my senior year left anyway.

I tap the "stop" button on my phone to silence the alarm and get up.

I will admit that I want to look nice today, so I plan to actually make an effort, even if it's just styling my hair, putting on some mascara and filling in my brows.

After taking a short shower, I blow dry my hair and straighten it with Alysa's old flat iron she gave me.

I dress into a pair of black, ripped jeans, my white Adidas nmd's and a pale pink t-shirt.

I look extremely basic but I'm okay with it... I don't really wanna show off my different style too much before I know how people are here.

I walk downstairs and find Alysa and Brandon already grabbing their things to leave.

"Wait what time is it?" I ask.

"It's almost 7:45 and classes start at 8!" Alysa says shoving her laptop and books in her bag.

"Come on!" She pulls me out the door quickly and we get in her car.

As we drive to the other side of town she asks me which teacher I have first hour.

"Um, hold on let me see." I pull out my schedule and look for my first hour teacher as Alysa practically drives us into a ditch she's driving so fast.

"Mr. Jenson." I say and she cringes making an odd sound.

"Good luck with him, Brandon has him 4th hour and complains that he is the worst, something about always calling out students." Alysa says, watching the road intensely.

"Yeah, he teaches Global Economy by the way. Good luck with that one." She continues.

I chuckle at her attitude towards him.

"Way to make me feel better Liz," I say. She snaps her head towards me glaring at me.

"Okay. Nobody calls me-"

I look forward and feel my heart practically leap from my chest.

"Alysa look out!" I scream.

There is a man standing in the middle of the road! We didn't see him before a second ago because the sharp curves in the road.

Alysa slams on her brakes so hard my seatbelt chokes me, cutting my neck open.

We are just mere millimeters from hitting the man. He makes no move.
