I guess that I haven't spent any free time alone with Maxwell yet. So I should go see what he's up to.

I walked over to Jabberwock park on the central island and saw that Maxwell was looking towards a bed of roses.

NIKKI: "Roses. I didn't know that they grew here."

MAXWELL: "Thankfully they do. And take a closer look... Not just at the roses, but look what's on the roses."

I took a closer look and saw...

NIKKI: "Butterflies!"

MAXWELL: "Beautiful aren't they?"

NIKKI: "Yeah, there are so many different species of butterfly. And they're so pretty to paint."

MAXWELL: "They're beautiful, magnificent creatures."

NIKKI: "They sure are. I love them, and this is coming from someone who's father is a bug exterminator."

MAXWELL: "Cockroaches and weavils will never compare to Butterflies Nikki. Butterflies will never be pests that are exterminated.

NIKKI: "I know. I would hate my dad if he ever exterminated butterflies."

MAXWELL: "I don't recall ever hearing about your dad's profession."

NIKKI: "Oh no I let that secret out?! It's so embarrassing..."

MAXWELL: "I don't see anything embarrassing about it. It's not like he's a killer of people, so it's nothing for his daughter to be embarrassed about."

NIKKI: "I guess that you're right."

MAXWELL: "But on the subject of butterflies, have you ever heard of something called... The butterfly effect?"

NIKKI: "The Butterfly effect?"

MAXWELL: "In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state."

NIKKI: "Um... Could you please say that in English?"

MAXWELL: "Okay so basically, it's the belief that even one small event could pave a way to a much larger effect in the future."

NIKKI: "That sounds interesting."

MAXWELL: "Let say for example... If a butterfly flapped its wings at a specific time. That small gust of wind can grow and grow into a hurricane."

NIKKI: "Can something as small as them really cause  that?"

MAXWELL: "Presumably not, it's just an example."

NIKKI: "The butterfly effect... hmmm?"

MAXWELL: "Here, take a look at this."

Maxwell took off the necklace that he wears and showed me the silver pendant that was connected to it.
