Gretta's POV

I woke up shaky and covered in sweat, my throat scratchy from screaming.

My alarm clock read three a.m.
I was terrified of the nightmares I kept having, I wanted to call one of my friends.

I debated calling Naomi who had been my friend when everyone else abandoned me. She works at a coffee shop open 24 hours, so I knew she'd be awake.

Then I debated calling Zack, who had been my friend ever since we took him and his sister in when their parents died.

Useless information, but I have a crush on both Naomie and Zack, I still have high hopes one of them will like me back.

I knew Zack would be up too, he always worked the early shift.

---

When I called him, he offered to come to my apartment to pick me up. I told him not to worry about it.

"Are you sure? I can take off of work and-"

"It's okay, really. We can meet up later, I'll be fine." I interrupted.

"That's unfortunate, you'll have made me drive all this way for nothing."
I pulled back my curtain, he stood against his car in the parking lot.

He waved at me.

"I'll be down in five." I sighed exasperatedly.

---

Zack was still in his uniform when I came downstairs, his hair was ruffled from the hat he now held in his hand.

"I told you not to come." I mock scolded him, but really I was glad he came.

"You really shouldn't be alone, especially when you're having nightmares." He looked concerned. I brushed it off and got in the car.

"Damn," I said aloud. "Four AM." I rested my head of the cold window and closed my eyes.

I half woke up an hour later, and I was in a bed. Zack's arms wrapped around my torso. I fell back asleep without giving it much thought.

The second time I woke up, the sun was actually up.

I sat up to grab my phone from Zack's nightstand, his phone sat next to mine. When he grabbed his I felt his body press against me from behind and a shiver went down my spine.

We decided to get lunch. We talked, and joked around a bit, then Zack set down his coffee.

"Gretta. There's something that I need to ask you."

"Whats up?" I set down my fork.

"Gretta, would you-" His voice was drowned out by the sound of alarms. Someone shouted above the noise, "Everyone hide!"
