Natsuki's P.O.V.

Finally had gathered enough money, I headed to the store and bought a couple of foods I needed. Some ingrediants for miso soup, octo dogs,  and cupcakes. These things were all cheap enough thankfully and fun to make.

As I baked for the club meeting the next day, I couldn't help but think of the gingerbread man folktale. Whoever came up with that idea? It was kinda cute though, but I was positive my cupcake kitties were cuter.

How did a gingerbread man come to life? I know in some they made him just cause they were hungry and in others they made him cause they wanted a child. Either way, I put my heart and soul into everything I cook and bake and my food never came to life. I thought it'd be hilarious if it did though.

Taking the cupcakes out of the oven, I finished making the cupcake frosting and when they had cooled off enough, started to ice them. I focused more on one cupcake, pretending to create someone who would come to life.

"You shall have green frosting to represent you will be alive and well. You get bigger black eyes for curiousness. A little smirk for mischief and the shiniest nose of all kittens for your bravery." I giggled at my silly play. If my dad were here, he'd think my pretending was idiotic.

I continued while I could. "I name thee, Noboru!" I exclaimed this, using my wisk as a sword, placing it on each side of his head like a queen knights someone. And just like that, it blinked at me saying, "Hey!"

"......the heck!" This couldn't be happening. I was pretending. I didn't believe in fairy tales. This wasn't real. This couldn't be.

The cupcake hopped about. "Wow. Nice place you got here, Natsuki." "H-how-? Why-? ....what?"

It looked at me innocently with it's big eyes. "You made me! Noboru! Remember?" "But..." "Green for life, big eyes for curiosity? I'd call you mom but, you're a bit too hot for that," it told me with a wink.

"Hot? D-don't call me that..! Geez..." "Just telling the truth. I can't wait to learn about the world! And uh, get a girlfriend," he said with a chuckle.

"Pshh! I'm eighteen and still never dated anyone. You aren't getting a girl friend soon, Nobo." "Nobo? I love it!" I smacked my hand to my forehead. I just nicknamed a cupcake!

"But anyway, you can always make me a girlfriend," he said with a giggle. "Oh, shut up!" I couldn't help but feel a bit attached to him. Plus one talking cupcake was enough.

"Jealous?" He asked. "Don't make me eat you," I told him, setting the other cupcakes on a plate to take to school. He frowned at my comment but soon his smirk was back.

"What you do for fun?" "Cook, bake, read manga," I said, starting to wash my mess up. "Manga? What's that?" "You don't know-" I was about to be pretty shocked he didn't know what manga was but remembered he was literally born a few minutes ago. "Manga is the finest literature, little Nobo," I explained with a smirk of my own.

The rest of the night I told him about my Parfait Girls collection. I really wished I had it that moment to show him. He seemed quite interested in it. "Where is your manga now?" "Oh it's at school. My dad hates the stuff.." "Then I have to go to school with you!" "Um, no. You're a talking cupcake. Never gonna happen."

The next day I took all my cupcakes to school, except Nobo reminding him he couldn't come, and a couple octo dogs for lunch. Pretty boring day until our club meeting. I met Sayori on the way and she offered to carry the tray of cupcakes. Remembering her clumsy streak I kindly said no.

Once in the club room, we saw Yuri scribbling away on a paper with a pen. Pretty different from her usual reading but I didn't question it. I went to grab my manga but it was on a high shelf. "Uurrrgh. Frickin Monika."

I grabbed a chair and reached up to get them. Finally in my arms, I got down off the chair and looked over at the cupcakes on the table. A green one with an all too familiar smirk winked at me, then I saw Sayori reaching right for him. I practically tossed my manga on the shelf and smacked Sayori's hand away.

"S-sorry but that one is mine!" I told her, a bit embarrassed that I really had to smack Sayori in order to save Noboru. "Oh... sorry!" She said grabbing another one, clearly a bit hurt by my reaction. I was about to take Nobo into the closet to scold him but Monika announced it was poem time.

With a sigh, I made sure Noboru was near me at all times as we read each other's poems. Eventually the meeting was over and I rushed to the closet with him.

"What were you thinking!?" I rasped. "You almost got eaten!" "I wanted to be with you! And read manga with you and meet your friends." I sighed at his cute innocent answer.

"Well.. fine. I'll bring you to school, but you stay in my tubbawear until we're in the closet, okay?" He nodded happily and we headed home.

A week later

I had grown attached to my cupcake friend throughout this time. He was still naughty and flirtatious, but I'll admit I kinda liked it. I never let him know that though.

Surprisingly, he hadn't gone bad the whole time. It was like some magic spell was shielding him from it. But it had been awhile since I ate, nothing in the pantry or refrigerator. My stomach constantly growled, and I couldn't take it.

"Natsuki... you have to eat me." "Wh-what? Never! How could you say such a thing?" "You have to..." little frosting tears glistened down over his whiskers.

I was remembering everything we'd done together. Reading the whole series of Parfait Girls, going out to the park, and most importantly our late night talks. Where when I was on the verge of giving up, he was there.

"Noboru.. I can't. You're my best friend. I'm... nothing without you-" "No," he interrupted. "I am nothing without you. You made me, and you are my whole life. I have no purpose without you, Natsuki. You are talented, tough, and beautiful. I... I love you. So please. Just eat me."

I hadn't noticed the tears streaming down my cheeks. He was right.. there was no other way. I couldn't let him see me starve to death. He was just too innocent for that. I knew what I had to do...

"Noboru... I love you too. And I will forever cherish this past week. I will never forget you..." He smiled, frosting melting from his big curious eyes. "Good bye, Natsuki." "Good bye... Noboru..."
