I wake up to a soft moisture on cheek. Alfred, my dog is "kissing" me. My ear aches as a pull out my headphones. I fell asleep listening to Imagine Dragons-again. It takes me a while to get out of my bed and to drag myself into my shabby kitchen. I grab a breakfast bar and dread the day ahead of me. Working at the same office, talking to the same cubicle inhabitants, eating the same food, ugh the bore I call my life. I pick up the mail pile stacked on my counter, and I take a sheet of paper out of an envelope. It reads "Happy Birthday Shai! Hope you like it! I'll meet you there at the entrance tonight at 7! ~Len" It's probably a gift card for Olive Garden or something. I take out the 2nd sheet of paper and my eyes are drawn to the StubHub! Logo on the sheet. I read more and drop the paper in disbelief. My shaky fingers dial Len's number.

"Hello?" A soft voice awnsers.
"LEN! YOU BOUGHT ME IMAGINE DRAGONS TICKETS! THANK YOU SO MUCH!" I scream.
"Aw Shai, you deserve it! I know you have been going through a lot, and I thought it would be an awesome way to spend your 21st birthday!"
"Len, you are the best friend ever! See you tonight!"
"Thanks Shai! Love you!"
I. Am. Going. To. An. Imagine. Dragons. Concert. This will solve everything-seeing my idols in the flesh. I will feel complete again. For one night I can leave my worries behind and genuinely have fun.

I call in sick for work and turn off the reality TV show I was half-watching. I prowl through my closet like a bull in a china shop. I finally find a pair of floral shorts and a black shirt, and put on high heels. I glance in the mirror- I do look good, but the ring of self-consciousness still whispers within me. I try to ignore it, and go put on makeup and do my hair. I look at my phone- it's 5:45. The venue is 45 minutes away and knowing the traffic here, I should leave now. I give Alfred food and put him in his cage, then head out the door. I walk towards my Chevy truck and put the keys in the ignition. I sit there in complete awe and bliss. Happiness is rare to me, but unexplainably wonderful.
