Benny and His Home Life Fit In With The Cooperstown Aesthetic
Benny wasn't sure what he found attractive about Brooklyn.
Maybe it was her eyes. She had wonderfully blue eyes, ones that had lines of paler shades going towards her pupil. They seemed to glow in the light, and when there wasn't any light it was as if they held all the secrets you would ever want.
Or maybe her laugh. Her laugh was deep and sincere, and she laughed all the time. How anyone could laugh so much was a mystery to him.
Or maybe it was the fact that she would hear someone mention a song she liked and then they would delve deep into a whole conversation about the song and then the band and then the singer.
Whatever it was, he was going to get himself hurt.
Everyone knew that Brooklyn wasn't good at having relationships. She would move from one to the next, girl or boy, and left a trail of broken hearts. Benny doubted Brooklyn even realized she was doing it. To her, it was just high school loves. Things you'd forget, with time.
But it wasn't to everyone she'd ever dated. (In case you where wondering, 27.) It was hard to hate her though, with her cheery voice and smiling face and laugh and friendliness with everyone. Besides the French Horns. No, even with the friendliest, rivalries still stand.
Detention was over, thank goodness. Benny was sure that by now, Mariana was freaking out. He pulled out his phone, a hand-me-down from Jacob, and opened it to see ten different texts and three missed calls.
Mariana: Ben, where are you
Mariana: Jacob didn't see you on the bus. Where are you???
Mariana: Benjamin Johnson Frank, answer me!!
Mariana: Benjamin, I will contact mom.
Mariana: I'm serious. I'll do it.
Jacob: Mariana's freaking out, answer her. Plz.
Mariana: BEN. ANSWER. ME. NOW.
Mariana: I'll call mom. I'll do it. I'll do it, I swear!
Missed Call From: Mariana
Mariana: I'm going to slaughter you and turn you into taco meat if you don't answer me right now, young man.
Benny sighed and shot her a text.
Benny: I'm fine. Alive, still have all my limbs, and my virginity. Just got detention. Be home soon.
"Who you texting?" Brooklyn stood on her tiptoes to try and peer over his shoulder. She was shorter than him. Only by a little.
"My sister." Benny gave her a small smile. She gave him a large one. Dallas was watching Reese carefully. She didn't seem to have been really effected by whatever she'd drunk from her flask.
"See you losers later." Reese waved. "I've got stuff to do." she headed off towards the bad part of town.
"Reese!" Dallas yelled. She turned, the slightly chilly wind blowing her hair across her face. "Don't you live down there?" he pointed to the west, where all of the richer people of Cooperstown lived. Reese shrugged.
"Yeah. My business is down this way." she waves Dallas off and continued on her way, hands shoved into her pockets. She turned a corner and was gone.
Dallas frowned. Brooklyn chewed her bottom lip. Benny pressed his lips together. Without a word, the three headed on their way, where all of the mediocrity people lived.
