After being compelled by Marcel to forget his family, including Nina, Elijah Mikaelson was riding on a bus. He got off at a bus station in a place called Sunnyvale.

"Know where you're going, hon?" The bus driver asked.

"I--I need--I need food," Elijah answered.

"Chicken and waffles, two miles up the road," the bus driver told him. "Good luck to you."

The bus driver drove away.

Elijah walked towards the vending machine in front of him, he searched his pockets for money but found nothing. He leaned his head against the glass and started to tap his hand against it as well, wanting to desperately eat something. The third time he hit the glass, it broke and cut him. Elijah was shocked but he quickly dismissed it and grabbed a bag of chips, opening it and eating them, hungrily. Then he looked at the blood on his hand and that triggered his bloodlust.

As he dropped the bag of chips, a man walked closer.

"Is there a problem?" The man asked.

Elijah looked at him and walked closer, hearing the man's heartbeat. "What is that?"

"What is what?" The man asked,

"That noise," Elijah asked.

"Okay, um, you look like you could use some help," the man said, turning around to make a phone call. "Hey, yeah, I got a guy here that, uh, just put his hand through our vending machine." Elijah slowly approached the man, his face transforming. "He punched a hole in it, broke the glass."

Elijah dug his fangs into the man's neck, feeding on him.

The man managed to pull away, looking at Elijah in fear before running off towards his truck.

Elijah breathed heavily as he realized that blood is what he truly craved, he walked closer to the man and grabbed him, disappearing.

The man's bloody hand print was left on the window of the truck.

After killing the man, Elijah put on his clothes, cleaned the blood off and held a cuff link with the letter E on it, looking it over. Then he glanced at his daylight ring before stealing the man's truck and driving away.

A week later, Elijah was in New York City feeding ravenously on another victim. His supernatural hearing picked up Antoinette's voice.

"It's okay. There's nothing to fear." Elijah stood. "There, there. Very good. That's right. Be at peace now. There you go."

Elijah followed the voice, walking towards Antoinette, who was feeding on a woman and laid her down gently once she was done.

"Not big on audiences," Antoinette told him. "So unless you want to die, I suggest you run."

Antoinette froze, recognizing Elijah as an Original.
