“London, how are you lovely people doing tonight!”
I turned away from the stage once the crowd started cheering like crazy. Marianas Trench just finished their set, and this was usually my cue to head back to the bus. It had been getting harder and harder to get anywhere unnoticed ever since Josh went on that radio interview back at Winnipeg. I was listening that morning because I knew they were going to sing, as opposed to just playing the studio version of their songs. I actually prefer their live performances because I can hear Matt more in them. But of course, I couldn't really tell anyone.
“So, Josh..” a girl spoke up about five minutes into the interview. “What's this we've been hearing about one Chrysa Wilson?”
“Oh,” he laughed. “I didn't realize people already knew her name. I don't remember telling anyone.”
“I think Brett mentioned it to some fans,” Mike cut in. Yes, he was absolutely right. Brett.
A new girl's voice came up, I assumed they were taking questions from the fans who were granted access to the studio. “So.. you two are definitely together?”
“Yes ma'am,” Josh responded without hesitation. “I am dating Chrysa Wilson.”
“How long exactly have you been going out now?” the radio interviewer asked. I remembered what Matt told me a few days back; there was no way to avoid the personal questions, no matter how awkward they turn out to be. You'd think they would learn to respect privacy and not bring up topics like that.
“Uhh, a few weeks before the tour started. So.. more than a month now,” Josh responded. You could actually hear the smile in his voice. Dang it, that man was a good actor. Good enough to make his fans believe that he was actually happy about 'dating' me. He even sounded shy, like he didn't want to admit it at first.
“Oooh, a month,” I heard some of the fans they had inside the studio squeal. “I guess not everything can stay a secret, huh?”
No, I thought to myself, apparently not.
“Would you believe,” the interviewer continued. “That we are getting tweets and calls right now trying to get more information about this. I can tell you one thing, though, Josh. She's really pretty.”
“I know, isn't she? She's gorgeous,” I swear there was a giggle somewhere there. I noticed that Matt suddenly went quiet, too. Well, he usually was. But I haven't heard him say anything ever since the topic of Josh's love life came up.
“We have a question from one of the fans, 'Why is she on tour with you?'”
“Well, aside from the fact that I can't stand to be away from her for the entire month,” Josh laughed. “She's also working for the band. How we look like onstage and how we dress, that's all her.”
“Except for the pants,” Ian said. “That was all Josh's brain.”
And just like that, the entire fanbase just heard Josh confirm that he was taken. I thought about Cherie, and how she was taking the news. Josh had neglected to mention that we had already decided to play it along for the crowd at first. One thing this oh-so-brilliant man forgot to do was tell his girlfriend about his plans. I felt bad for Cherie, I really did.
Apparently, that phone call didn't start so nicely. I wouldn't have expected it, too. You see rumors popping about your guy, and naturally, you go nuts. Thankfully, Josh was still able to explain through the yelling, and he somehow got Cherie to agree to his plan of decieving the public.
