Killua got on his knees and waited for further instructions. How easy it is to pull out my blade and slit his throat. But even if I do, how would I carry him back to my master?
He stared at me blankly, as I to him, then I told the white-haired assassin to place his hand on the left side of his chest. Killua hesitated at first and asked me why.
"If I tell you exactly how I'm going to do it, you would think it's weird." I sighed, "just be quiet and try not to shout." I then struggled to place my hand on his chest and over his heart.
Just as I expected, his heart was racing, but Killua still managed to have a straight face and held still. I ordered him to keep his mouth shut because I needed to concentrate.
"Oh yeah, one more thing," I said. "No matter how painful it gets. Do not pull away or move. doing so can permanently kill Mai and instantly end your life too." Only the last part was real, but I knew that with Mai's life on the line Killua would do anything to save her.
Killua's nod signaled me to start the process. I breathed in then exhaled slowly. Here we go. I pressed my palm on Killua's chest as hard as I could and focused on the thread that roamed within our body. Slowly, I felt a slithering motion as the endless string creeped its way from my feet and out my wrist. And finally into Killua's body.
I saw Killua wince as the thread made its way into his body. His body started to tremble a bit, then I adjusted my eyes, so that I may direct my attention to the thread inside Killua. My master taught me a skill to see inside the person's body, almost like x-ray vision, then guide the string to the heart. However, when it arrives at the heart, is where the pain begins. I observed the thread as it glided in Killua's chest and surrounded his beating heart. The string then wrapped around his heart, circling over and over until instantly, it tightened itself squeezing the organ in place. At this point, Killua grabbed the ground and dug his fingers into the dirt, his breathing quickened as he tried to remain still.
"I know this is painful, but you have to hold on a little longer," I tried to comfort Killua.
"No.. I'm fine." He managed to respond.
Inside Killua's chest, the thread was still at work as it clenched onto his heart tighter and tighter making it look like the organ was ready to pop. Swiftly, the string began to sink into the heart leaving only a trial to my body. I knew it worked because I felt hazy afterward.
"We're all... we're all done," I mumbled, while my vision became cloudy.
"What' s wrong?" Killua quickly came to my side, however as soon as he moved he grabbed his chest from the aching the process left him.
"Try not to move too much... the thread is working on draining some of your life and transferring it to Mai's..." I breathed heavily. "It would be best... if we rest here. It's already dark; we should sleep."
"Okay," Killua didn't argue and laid on the ground. "Hey, uh...?"
"It's Muh and what is it," I answered annoyed.
"How long until Mai is back."
I remained quiet. Sleep tried to drown me as I fought to speak, but my eyelids were gradually dropping. "Soon..." Darkness filled my view and instead of dreaming, I submerged into Mai's memories. What Killua doesn't know is that Mai won't know who he is. Not at first, at least. She will slowly recover her memories by order from the beginning up to the day she took her life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"Stop crying you, worthless creature!" Someone shouted.
I heard weeping followed by several lashes.
