Chapter 1 (Emma)

Honk! I sat in my best friend Danielle's driveway. I could tell that her brother Jackson had left already. Damn, this girl can't be on time.

Honk, Honk, Honk!!!!!

I finally saw her through the window into her garage where she stood looking at herself in the mirror. I rolled down my window and screamed. "JESUS CHRIST WOMAN!!! HURRY UP AND GET YOUR ASS IN THE CAR!!!!"

She hurried over and jumped into my Ford escape. "Are you trying to wake-up the whole neighborhood?" She rolled her eyes.

I blasted the radio and pulled out.

We pulled up and walked out of the car. A bunch of kids where lounging in the parking lot sitting on the hood of their cars. To the right were the pot heads. I stared at them. They sicken me. Suddenly one head looked up and stared right back at me. His dirty blond hair was spiked in the front. In his mouth was a cigarette. I quickly looked away and blushed. Derek Rider was a bad boy. Him and his cousin Austin were bad-asses. People like Dani and I didn't mix with them, we were from completely different worlds.

I glanced up again and his eyes locked with mine. He didn't seem to be embarrassed when he was caught staring. Maybe a guy that hot could fit in my world. I smirked and shook my head laughing to myself. Yeah, me and Derek. That's an interesting thought. I turned to talk to Dani but she wasn't there. I looked around the parking lot and she waved me over to her.

"What's up? I thought you were following me but i guess not." She said looking confused

I blushed. "So what are you guys talking about?"

"I'm having a Halloween party tonight!" Squeaked Chelsea. Chelsea was popular don't get me wrong. But she was no where near as popular as me and Dani.

"We'll definitely be there!" Dani said. She giggled and grabbed my arm and pulled me to our lockers. "So...?"

"So what?" I was super confused.

"What's up with you? You were like....staring...at....the pot heads......." She shivered.

"Oh. Sorry." I looked at the ground trying to avoid eye contact.

"Where you staring at anyone in particular?" She raised one eye brow. "Like Austin Cooper? 'Cause he's kind of really hot." She blushed and bit her lip.

My eyes went wide. "Oh. My. God. Do you like Cooper?"

"WHAT? Hell no!.... Maybe...." She said so quietly that I could barely hear the last comment.

"That's so weird because..." I trailed off staring at my locker and trying to avoid eye contact again.

"What!!!!! I told you about Cooper!"

"What about me?"A deep voice came from behind her.  Dani's body tensed up and she couldn't move.

Shit! I looked up to see Cooper smirking behind her! 

"Hey Cooper, we were just talking about the party last year, when you came on to Dani."

"Shut the fuck up, Emma!!!!!!!!!!!" Dani screamed blushing wildly.

I quickly glanced up to see Cooper's face was beet red. Dani stepped away from Cooper to see that he was leaning against her locker. He looked a little bit less cool because of him blushing. In all the years we've known Cooper, we've never seen him blush. Also I never knew that my best friend had a crush on him!

"Ha-ha" Cooper said sarcastically. "We were drunk and I had no clue what I was doing." I looked over at Dani and her shoulders slumped.

"Wait. Who was drunk?" The smell of smoke filled the area as Derek stood next to Cooper.

"You where you asshole." Cooper said and punched him in the arm. It sounded like it hurt, but Derek didn't flinch at all.

"Whoa. Calm down Coop. We all know you've had a crush on Dani since....forever." He shrugged his shoulders and held his hands up in surrender. He smirked at Dani and I.

Cooper stared wide-eyed at his cousin. "Um....." Dani said uncomfortably.

"We should go." I said finishing her sentance and taking pity on Cooper.

As she speed walked down the hall we could hear the boys yelling at each other. We quickly turned the corner Dani pulled me to a stop. "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT FOR?!" She looked furious.

"What? We were talking about Cooper and then he showed up! I had to cover for you because you looked like you saw a ghost." I stated defensively.

She stormed off. She headed to chemestry. Luckily we had the same schedule so we had plenty of time to talk this through. Dani can't stay mad at anyone for more than a couple of hours.

I pulled up a seat next to Dani. She automatically turned her back to me. After a couple of minutes of awkward silence class finally began.

"OK class. So today we are going to start a new project. For this project you have each been partnered with a senior from Mr. Davis' class." Ms. Brown said. "Each senior has chosen  who he or she would like to work with." Suddenly the door opened and a bunch of students walked in. Jackson waved to Dani and I. Dani was lucky, her brother was a good student so she was definetly going to get a good grade.  Why can't I have a older brother to be my partner?

Ms. Brown and Mr. Davis began calling out names. My heart stopped when Ms. Brown called my name. I slowly stood up waiting for Mr. Davis to name my partner. His eyes slowly scanned his clip board for what seemed like forever. "Ms. Harris," He paused. I was about to scream. The suspense was killing me. "Your partner is, Mr Rider." He nodded to Derek who had a smirk was plastered on his face.

We walked to a table and sat next to each other. "So I guess we're partners, smarty-pants." He said and winked at me.

"Didn't you pick me as a partner?" I rasied one eye brow. He looked at me wide eyed. I smirked in satisfaction.

"Well you're smart and the only other person available was the cocky cheerleader." He said as he nodded to he back of the room. There sat Amanda. She hooked up with anyone she could get her hands on. What a slut.

"That's bull. You know you love me." I winked and bumped my shoulder into his.

"Self absorbed much?" He said and laughed.

I laughed and looked over to Dani who still sat quietly at her desk.

"Ms. Carter, "Said Mr. Davis "You are partnered with Mr. Cooper." Her jaw dropped and so did mine. Everyone watched as Cooper casually walked to sit right next to Dani. She blushed but her jaw was still dropped. Cooper lifted one finger and genitally pushed her jaw so her mouth was closed. She blushed insanely as Cooper left his finger there. I turned to look at Jackson. He was furious.

"Hey. Jackson" I said.

He looked at me "What?"

"Why aren't you partners with Dani? I wouldn't think that you would ever let her be partners with someone like Cooper."

He sighed. "I came in late to class so I had to partner up with that douche bag over there."

"Mr. Andrews," Mr. Davis began.

"Speak of the devil." He rolled his eyes. Got up and put his hands up surrendering. "Ya I know, I know." He sighed."Mr. Andrews, your partner is Mr. Carter." He said in a deep voice trying to mimic Mr. Davis. Mr. Davis gave him a stern look and continued on with the list.

I glaced over at Dani who was smiling and batting her long eye lashed at Cooper, she was such a flirt. They both started laughing and I knew that Dani had gotten over our 'arguement'. I turned and started talking to Derek.
