"The king will see you now, princess." Abigail announced when she entered Adelaide's chambers. It was for the second time she was hearing that sentence, but this time, she had an idea of what to expect; not entirely though.

It was only the previous day that she came to know that His Royal Highness, Alpha King Theodore Lykaios was her destined mate. She didn't know what to think about it, and she had no idea how he thought about it himself. They didn't have the chance to talk about it; not yet. He left as soon as the other man entered the room and she has not seen him since.

Currently, she was preparing herself to meet him again; her mate, the lycan king. She still couldn't wrap her head around it. A werewolf princess, fated to the lycan king. It was never heard of, not destined at least. Some wolves do choose to spend their lives with the lycans, and in Ada's mind, those were the traitors.

The lycans terrorised them, and as a werewolf royal, it was her duty to protect her people from such monsters and cruelty. How could she become a traitor herself?

It wasn't her fault, she knew that much, but why her? How could the Goddess betray her like this? How could she pair her with the enemy? A lycan?

Ada hated it. She hoped that she could somehow escape her destiny, but she must face it and carry on. She must not give in to the bond, no matter how strong and tempting it becomes.

With that thought, Adelaide straightened her spine and stepped out of the room determinedly. She will not break, nor will she bow those monsters. They can't make her.

"Enter." Theodore's voice echoed. It sent shivers down her spine. It was deep and husky, and it spoke right to her soul. However, her determination to ignore him and there bond strengthened her resolve and she managed to suppress her feelings inside.

Adelaide reached for the handle and twisted it open before she stepped inside the room. Her eyes found Theodore's green ones and her breath hitched in her throat. Her wolf wanted to stare into them all day, but she snapped out of it immediately, scolding her wolf in the process. She couldn't fall into his trap.

She scanned the office she entered, and her eyes landed on her brother who occupied one of the armchairs facing the main desk in the room. She met his gaze, but she couldn't hold it for long. Her shame started eating at her insides, so she did the only thing she could do at that moment. She swept it all under the rug and curtsied before she made her way towards the other seat in the area.

She didn't meet either of their gazes, instead choosing to look around the office with feigned interest. A throat clearing brought her attention back to the lycan king as he sorted through some papers in front of him.

"Are you ready to begin, alpha Demetrius?" Theodore asked.

Demetrius tore his gaze away from his sister and gave the lycan a nod. "Yes, your highness. I'm ready." He replied in a tight voice.

"And you, lady Adelaide?" Theodore turned to Adelaide, a brow raised in her direction. His green eyes glinted with dislike, just like hers did. It seemed that neither of them accepted the bond; rightfully so. This match rarely happened, and never among the royals.

"Yes," Adelaide replied, hesitantly. "I am."

She straightened her back, clasping her hands together. She prayed that her resolve won't fade during their meeting and that her control stayed intact. She couldn't risk her wolf's desires to be seen, not when she recoiled from them herself.
