Chapter 21: Hospital Stays
*Wednesday morning**Drew's P.O.V.*
"Drew! Help me!" I hear someone scream.
I look all around me, but there's no one here.
"Help me please!" suddenly I'm standing across a street. Jessie is looking at me from the middle of the road.
"Jessie! Get off the road!" I yell. She smiles at me, turns to the right, and looks back at me in complete panic.
I try to see what she sees, but suddenly a car smashes into her. "Jessie!" I try to run towards her, but something is holding me back.
"Jessie!" I try again as I watch her lifeless body on the road.
Suddenly everything goes black again.
There's a flash of light. I see Jessie in the distance. She looks beautiful. Her long black hair is nicely curled and tied up. She's wearing a beautiful white dress, hugging her figure perfectly.
"Jessie! You're okay." I smile and a feeling of relief washes over me. She slowly turns to face me. "Drew." She smiles as she makes her way towards me.
But with every step it seems like she moves farther and farther away.
"Drew? What's happening to me?!" She yells as she's pulled into the light. "Jessie, wait!" I try to run towards her but I can't move.
"Drew! Do something! Why won't you help me?!" She cries as she continues to get pulled away.
"No!" I yell at the top of my lungs. I look around me, my heart beating fast. "Jessie?" I try to look for her. I try to calm down and control my breathing.
"Are you okay?" A tired Shay asks from across the waiting room. "Yeah, I- I'm fine." I stutter as I try to comprehend what just happened. "Just a bad dream." I try to reassure her. She offers me a small smile, "She's going to be fine." I try to smile back but it feels more like a grimace.
"Family of Jessie Garcia?" a nurse walks in. Everyone wakes up and immediately starts asking questions. "I'm sorry, I need to talk to her immediate family only." he offers us a sympathetic smile. Alyssa makes her way to the front, "That would be me."
The nurse smiles at her, "Please follow me." We all look at each other confused, wondering what's going on. "Guys, everything will be okay. I'll be right back." Alyssa gives us a small smile as she walks off with the nurse.
We all nod and sit back down.
*Alyssa's P.O.V.*
I follow the nurse as he leads us into a small room. I read a small sign in front of the door, "Counseling Room." I take a deep breath as I walk in.
"Ms. Garcia, this is Doctor Collins. He's our hospital's emotional counselor and will be here to help with any emotional needs through this journey." the nurse introduces us.
I try not to roll my eyes as he references this hell of an accident a "journey". I offer the doctor a small smile as I shake his hand.
"Thank you for the introduction Nurse Lopez, you can leave us alone now." Dr. Collins gives him a warm smile as Nurse Lopez excuses himself and closes the door.
Dr. Collins is tall, athletic built man. He has jet black hair and is dressed in a black dress shirt and black slacks. His hair is neatly placed to one side.
"So, Ms. Garcia..." He trails off as he reads over a clipboard. "I see here that your sister is in critical condition." he looks at me over his glasses with his beautiful hazel eyes.
"Um, yes that's correct." I try to hold myself together. He nods his head as he takes a few notes. "Basically I'm just here to alleviate this horrible experience, and do anything in my power to make it as least emotionally traumatic as possible."
I nod my head, unsure of what to say. I wonder how old he is? He looks a little young to be a doctor.
"Seeing that we are unsure as to when your sister will be waking up, I believe it's best for all of you to go and get some rest."
"But Doc-" He quickly cuts me off. "I understand that you guys don't want to leave her side, but it is extremely important for all of you to continue to take care of yourselves in the process. Do it for Jessie." he smiles.
I look at him quizzically, still unsure as to whether to agree. "Look, it's 9am, you guys have the whole day ahead of you. Take some time to take care of yourselves. It will do you all so much better than just waiting around another day."
I let out a sigh of defeat. "Thank you, Doctor. I'll let everyone know, although I don't think they'll be too happy."
He lets out a small chuckle, my heart flutters and my cheeks begin to burn.
"Ah yes, well I'll accompany you to make sure everything goes okay." he smiles at me, I smile back.
"Alright Ms. Garcia, let's get going." He stands up and offers me his hand. I look up at him and try to contain a smile, I gladly take his hand.
"You can call me Alyssa by the way." I say shyly. "I don't believe that's too professional." Doctor Collins says as he walks by my side.
I look down at the ground, a bit embarrassed. He chuckles, "I'm just kidding, Alyssa." I look up at him and smile.
"You can call me Jason."
We're finally back in the waiting room. Everyone looks up as we walk in and immediately stand up.
"So what's new?" Alyssa says.
"What did the doctor say." Keaton asks.
"Yeah, is Alyssa okay?" Drew frantically questions.
I offer them a small smile and take a deep breath. Doctor- I mean Jason places his hand on the small of my back reassuringly.
"Jessie is fine, nothing has really changed in her condition-" everyone groans. I offer an apologetic smile, as if I somehow had something to do with her health.
"I think it's best if we all just go home and rest." I'm immediately met with protest from the group.
"Guys, please." Jason says. "There's little to no chance Jessie will be waking up soon. You guys need to rest and make sure you're healthy and strong, for her." he continues.
The group looks at each other and then nod their head in agreement. Nathan walks up to Jason, "You're right, Doctor...?" he trails off. "Doctor Collins." Jason says as he sticks out his hand for a hand shake, Nathan takes it.
"Well I will see you guys around, but hopefully not for too long." he smiles as he begins to walk away.
"Doctor wait." I say as I hurry towards him. He quickly turns around, "Yes?" "Do you mind if I leave you my number? Just in case, you know, I need some emotional support?" I say with a small smile.
"No worries, I already have it on file." he smirks and gives me a quick hug, then continues to walk away. I stay in place, a bit shocked, but quickly get out of it and walk back to the group.
"Alright guys, let's get going."
We all grab our stuff and walk out of the hospital together. "Hopefully next time we're leaving, Jessie is walking out with us." David says.
I smile at the thought of my sister getting better soon, "She will, I just know it."
