Taxi
MAGANDA at maaliwalas ang araw ngayon sa Coffee shop kung saan ako nagtatrabaho. Wala akong pasok ngayon sa University kaya walong oras ang duty ko bilang barista sa coffee shop na pagmamay-ari ni Ma'am Eurice. She was the only person who hired me despite having no work experience and valid IDs. She didn't discriminate me even once even though I'm from the Province.
Buong buhay ko'y nakatira ako sa probinsya ng Baler Aurora kasama ang Nanay at ang bunso kong kapatid na si Pao-Pao. Wala akong tatay na maaasahan dahil hindi ko man lang siya nakilala simula noong bata ako. Ang sabi ni Nanay ay bigla na lang nawala ng parang bula ang ama ko nang malamang nabuntis niya ito.
Ang galing gumawa ng bata pero takot naman sa responsibilidad.
I immediately plastered a smile when a lot of customer came. Nang lumapit sa akin ang isang babaeng lagpas balikat ang buhok, may matangos na ilong, at mestiza, nakasuot ng itim na Tennis skirt, white tank top, at white cardigan ay lumaki ang ngiti ko.
"Lovely Morning, Ma'am! Welcome to Coffee Express! May I take your order, please?" Nakangiting tanong ko.
"I'll order one strawberry shortcake and a cappuccino, please." She answered before taking out a two hundred peso bill from her Prada wallet.
"Is it dine in or take out, Ma'am?"
"Dine in,"
"All right, Ma'am. I'll just prepare your order and bring it to your table,"
"Thanks," My lips parted when she winked at me.
I immediately prepared the order for the customer, and after preparing the order, I signaled Pearl, one of my coworkers, to replace my place at the counter. Tumango naman siya kaya nakangiting dumiretso na ako sa table ng costumer.
"Finally! My order is here!" The customer smiled when she saw me.
I lifted my eyebrows. "Alam kong may kailangan ka kaya ka sumadya dito sa coffee shop na pinagtatrabauhan ko," diretsong sabi ko.
Her lips curved into a smirk. Sinasabi ko na nga ba!
Oo, ang babaeng kinuhanan ko ng order ay walang iba kung hindi ang kaibigan slash roommate ko na si Khrizanta Altamirano. Isang third year, Tourism student. Habang ako naman ay BS in Hospitality Management, third year student. She was the first person I became friends with when I first set foot in Manila. She even helped me create a resume for work and helped me find a part-time job while studying here in Manila.
"Well, later sa BGC-"
"Ayoko," I immediately cut her off.
"Why not? You don't have class today naman and you'll finish your work at exactly six pm, right?" She crossed her arms in front of me.
"Oo, pero ayoko pa rin,"
Bigla ko tuloy naalala noong sinama niya ako sa BGC at hindi ko inaasahan na dadalhin niya ako sa Bar. Well, we have plenty of bars in Baler Aurora pero malayo 'yon sa bahay namin. Saka, hindi naman kasi ako umiinom dahil may acid reflux ako. Hanggang dalawang shot lang ay taob na ako.
"Please? It's been a year since I invited you to come with me to BGC! And today is Duke's 18th birthday, and he's inviting you to his small celebration."
Duke... 'yon yung pinsan ni Khriz na naging kaibigan ko rin although hindi kami palagi nagkikita dahil senior high school pa lang siya.
"Babatiin ko na lang siya mamaya," sabi ko.
"Ariella naman," She stared at me with pleading eyes. "Please?"
"Khriz-"
"I swear to all saint, Hindi kita papabayaan mamaya! Kasama rin natin yung iba kong pinsan, please? Please?" She even pouted her lips.
