Megan's P.O.V.
I took the laptop from the bench and held it balanced on one arm as I walked up the stairs from the basement. My sports bra and skip pants were drenched in sweat since I had just ran the equivalent of 10 miles on the treadmill. I might be worse than a computer geek and gamer put together, but I still liked to be fit and ready for action. I walked to the living room and noticed that it was brighter than how I had left it. Nicolette must have opened the curtains again, I hate working in a bright room and she sure as hell wouldn't get away with it unscathed this time. I entered the living room and didn't find Nicolette, neither was I blinded by sunlight. I saw two masked men, framed by the light of a lamp outside. They didn't notice me at first. I checked the clock on my laptop and noticed that it was almost one am. What do you know I must have lost track of time, at least I knew I wasn't the only one because I had heard Julian and Anya talking before I had gone down to the basement not even half an hour ago.
"Stay right where you are. Don't come any closer." The taller one of the two ordered as soon as he had caught sight of me and I must say if my intent had been to overpower them that I could have done so before they were any wiser. Armatures. I didn't follow their orders. Experience had taught me that robbers and kidnappers were like spiders, they were more on edge and scared than you were. The experienced ones were more dangerous because of it, they won't hesitate to shoot you, but these two I could see only carried weapons for intimidation.
"Julian!" I called, hoping that he hadn't decided to go to bed in the past half hour.
"Yeah?!" Came the reply.
"You might wanna come entertain our guests!" I sat down on the sofa, never taking my eyes off the laptop screen.
"We weren't expecting company!" Anya yelled.
"I apologize for the wait, you'll have somebody to intimidate into giving you the safe cod in just a minute." I smiled up at the two masked robbers, who just stood there, uns still pointing at me, "Their not the type to announce their intentions of visiting." I yelled.
"We'll be there in a sec!" Anya yelled back.
"Probably combing their hair and pulling their clothes back in place. Lovers , you can't even leave them for a minute." I mused at the robbers.
"Okay, we're here now who were you talking about?" Anya strolled into the living room followed closely by Julian.
I merely pointed in direction I last remembered them standing, not risking to look away from the screen again.
"Put your hand where I can see them." The shorter robber tried their tactic again.
"Can you guys please handle his someplace else. I'm trying to focus here." I grumbled.
"Right through here boys." Julian ushered the dazed robbers to the kitchen.Julian's P.O.V.
"Want something to drink?" Anya offered the robbers.
You could see that this was their first robbery and lets face it what they'd been through in the past few minutes was enough to confuse even the most seasoned robber.
"No... no thank you miss." The taller one answered.
"You sure? I could make you some lemonade and how about a sandwich?" Anya offered again keeping up with Megan's tactic to make this the weirdest robbery ever.
"A sandwich would be nice." The shorter one asked.
"Well then have a seat and I'll build you one."
They sat down gingerly and put their weapons on the kitchen island.
"I guess you guys would like the code to the safe."
They nodded eagerly and I had to feel sorry for them. They really weren't the sharpest of pencils in the packet.
"Brian what is the code to the safe?" I yelled.
"If Nicolette wants another dress tell her she could use the curtains." Brian yelled back.
"No, we have a couple of robbers here who wants it."
"In that case tell them we don't have a safe."
This yelling back and forth was really fun, we should use it instead of walking up and down the house to find the person you wanted to ask a question.
"What is all that racket?" Kevin called and from his louder than usual steps down the stairs I could tell that he was on his way to the join us in the kitchen.
"We have company." I explained when Kevin had finally joined us.
"Aw. Look at them, with their ski masks and everything, they're so cute and willing to get themselves killed." Kevin exclaimed and on any other occasion I'd guess calling the guys with guns cute would get you shot.
"You're not stalling us so you could call the cops?" The shorter one queried.
"Oh son the moment you broke into this house, the police became the least of your worries." Dexter's gruff voice sounded from the doorway and both the robbers' heads snapped to the right.
"Would you guys stop that. Their nerves must be shot as it is." Anya scolded. "Here a nice sandwich for each of you now eat up, I'll be back in a moment." Anya gestured for me to follow her, leaving Dexter and Kevin to babysit our robbers.
"What should we do with them?" Anya asked, concern evident in her voice.
"There isn't many options to choose from."
"They haven't seen too much and do you really think they'd go to the police?"
"True, but if the Boss gets wind that we let them go..." I trailed off Knowing that Anya could imagine the rest.
"He won't. Face it they're as dumb as they come. Nobody will take them seriously even if they find a way to boast about this."
"Okay fine, but only because I'm not in the mood for dumping bodies or scrubbing blood off the floor." I sighed in resignation.
"Thanks." Anya wrapped her arms around me briefly and pecked me on the lips.
Before I could say another word she was back in the kitchen, I followed reluctantly.
"All done?" Anya asked and the robbers pushed their plates toward her.
"Great now since we all know you won't get to steel anything tonight you might as well leave." I ordered.
The robbers got up, took their guns and walked to the front door with Anya and I in tow.Anya and I stood arm in arm on the front porch, waving goodbye to the two masked men who had entered our house with the intention of robbing it and left with no intention of ever trying to rob a house again.
I closed the door behind us and we both burst out laughing. My laughter was part amusement at what had just taken place and the rest was from nerves. Even though they hadn't posed much of a threat, they still had guns.
"Well that was..." I trailed off into another fit of hysterics.
"Something."
"Yes, if that wasn't worthy of a Grammy award then I don't know what is." I concluded.
"Look on the brighter side, now we have something to measure our heist against."
"With took the ledgers without anybody noticing as the highest, Took the ledgers but got caught as a fair medium and the two idiots who didn't even manage to rob us of a sandwich as the lowest." I chuckled.
"This'll be a nice story to tell our kids." Anya laughed.
I went quiet and after a while she caught on to what she had said and her laughter died down to.
"I...mean... oh whatever. Let's get back to the drawing board." Anya made a hasty retreat.
Once again I felt the pressing guilt that I was the reason that she wouldn't be able to have a normal live, that she wouldn't be able to marry just anybody or have children without extra consequences. I pushed these thoughts to the back of my mind and followed Anya instead.
