Armaan reached for his phone that had been ringing, still half asleep.

"Hey sleepy head. Still not up yet?" Samara's voice seemed cheerful on the other side of the call.

"You're not the only one who pulls all-nighters babe. I was up working all night."

"Well then, you better get some sleep. We have a busy day ahead."

"Busy? What for?"

"I was thinking we could um.....go pick up the rings today. I know you're not fond of shopping. I would've taken Maa or Alishba along but, I want to do this with you." He smiled at her reply. He knew that these little things meant a lot to her, and he was more than glad to do it.

"I'll be there."

"Thank you. Pick me up from the hospital then. Had an early morning shift today so it ends at one. We can have lunch together and then head to the mall later."

Samara put down the phone, already gleaming at the thought of her engagement. She had said yes to Armaan, and it was probably one the best decisions she made. She knew it wouldn't be easy to convince her parents, and rightfully so. They were quite skeptical when she told them about him. They had pointed out the obvious Indian-Pakistani cultural difference to begin with. Then the fact that he made music for a living, which wasn't really the ideal livelihood for a conservative Muslim family. Furthermore, despite both his parents being alive, he claimed to have no family. All these problems almost made her think they'd never agree to this marriage. But they decided to give him a chance and wanted to meet him. Once they did, they were very impressed. Her father in particular was happy to see his daughter's choice didn't disappoint him, like always. It wasn't a yes straightaway, but they eventually gave in. And the rest they say, is history.

"Sam what's the update on Mr. Hemming?"

"His stats are fine. Labs came back clear too. I guess we can discharge him by tomorrow. I'm off for today Kate. You let me know if any emergency crops up, okay?"

"Yeah sure, although I wouldn't want anybody to disturb me if I were going out with a fiancé like yours." Kate winked as she gestured towards Armaan who was standing near the elevator. He had gotten familiar with Samara's colleagues and the hospital staff, courtesy of his regular visits over there.

"Gosh Sam he's so cute!" Her friends always told her how lucky she was.

"I know, but he's mine!" Both the girls broke into giggles.

*******

"You're a total eye candy at the hospital, you know that right?"

Armaan smirked, his eyes still fixated on the road as he was driving, but Samara had his attention. "And that makes you jealous?"

"No not really. I find it quite funny actually."

"So you are not possessive about me at all?"

"Why should I be possessive about something that's already mine? Plus you need your own space, and I don't mind giving you that." She wasn't exactly honest about her answer. She did get possessive at times, but never let it show, not in front of him at least.

"You amaze me sometimes."

"I know." They enjoyed each other's company more than they realized.

"Oh I forgot to tell you something. Zeba khaala's getting married."

"What!?" She was not expecting that. "Really?"

"Yeah I know, I was shocked too when she told me. But it's true."

"To whom?"

"He's a colleague from work. American. They've known each other for years. According to khaala, they've liked each other for quite a while as well. In fact I actually met him the last time I was in Boston. Seemed like a pretty decent and caring guy. He hasn't married either. They both have similar ideologies." Armaan let out a chuckle. "I guess you can find true love at any age."

"C'mon age is just a number. Moreover, khaala's still pretty young. If she's happy with this relationship, we should be happy for her too."

"I am happy. She deserves a good man."

"When's the wedding?"

"In May. A few weeks after our engagement. She told me specifically to bring you along and reach early to help her with the preparations."

"Of course. Tell her not to worry. Actually, I'll give her a call tonight."

Armaan was genuinely pleased with the course of events that had been going on in his life. It was like everything was falling into place, and he prayed with all his heart that the bliss that had fallen over their lives stayed the same way.
