"Serena, do you see the dead?" The psychic's green eyes flickered as she peered over at the young woman who sat before her. She watched as Serena's curious smile turned into a confused scowl. "I know that it's an odd question for me to ask but from what I'm reading I understand that you will be starting a new chapter in your life and within the midst of this chapter you will be presented with a gift that you've had since birth." The old lady gestured her hands over the cards as if it were plain to see.
"Okay, Lady Luna, I just don't get it. What does all of that, have to do with my love life?" Serena raised an eyebrow in question. She noticed that the woman looked like she could be seventy with very soft wrinkles. She watched as the woman pursed her lips. She peered at the cards laid out on the table. Serena wasn't sure how or why the woman would think such a crazy thing like that. Her attention went back to the psychic who looked almost pained by the question she was asked but then something in her mood changed as she continued to read.
The psychic laughed, "It may be how you meet that special someone but bare in mind the outcome of the events that may or may not take place are based on your actions." The old lady smiled at Serena as the timer on the table started to beep, "Looks like our time is up I hope this helped you get the answers you wanted." She turned off the timer and waved goodbye to Serena.
Serena got up from the chair not knowing what to say to the weird psychic lady. Alrighty then I need to get out of here. She thought to herself as she made her way to the door. She felt the psychic's eye on her as she left and had felt a pain in her stomach as she walked out.
When she stepped out of the building she felt her phone vibrate in her pocket she had a feeling that it could be Violet the very friend who suggested that she try going to a psychic in the first place. She took the phone out of her pocket and answered it. "Hello, Violet." She started out as she heard the traffic in the background.
"So how was your Tarot reading? Did you like it?" Violet's voice held the child-like curiosity she always seemed to have.
Serena thought about her response before she said anything because she knew that Violet really believed in Psychic readings and other things. She didn't want to hurt her friend's feelings but didn't want to lie about it either. "To be honest, Violet I didn't like the reading. It made me feel as if I was naked sitting in front of her. "Serena replied with the hopes that she wouldn't take her words too heavily.
Serena could hear Violet let out a disappointed sigh. "I'm sorry Serena it made you feel uncomfortable."
Those were the last words Violet got to say before a drunk driver in a Nissan Sedan had t-boned her blue Ford pickup. Violet was winded and hadn't the time to scream when she could barely breathe at all.
When Serena heard the noise in the background her eyes widened in horror because all she could hear was Violet's shallow breath then silence. Serena couldn't believe what she had heard on the phone. The shock washed over her and the urge to cry was there but she knew that she would have to find the accident. Serena got off the phone and ran to the bike rack and quickly unlocked her bike so she could ride it to where she thought the accident would be. Her heart pounded in her chest as her mind processed what happened to her friend.
When she got to the scene she looked at both vehicles and could tell from the damage the accident caused that neither party survived the collision. She got off her bike and let it fall to the cement.
There Violet was her eyes wide open as blood trickled down her forehead. Serena couldn't bear the sight any longer and tried to make sure she knew what the main cross streets were so that she could call 911 and give them information about the accident. "Hello, there has been a car accident it appears that both parties are dead. We are between Mill and Spruce Street." She said as calmly as she was not able to get the image of her dead friend out of her head.
"Just hang in there ma'am we will have someone over there shortly to help clean up the issue. Do you know anyone in the accident?" The lady over the phone asked Serena.
"Yes, I do."She answered not able to hold back her tears any longer. "The woman who got T-boned is my best friend Violet Reyob."
"Please stay there for the ambulance and the police. They will be there shortly." The woman on the phone responded before they ended the call.
"Thank you," Serena said as she hung up the phone.
Before the emergency vehicles got there Serena could feel a familiar presence behind her and could smell the faint perfume that Violet would wear all the time. When she turned around she saw Violet as clear as day standing there she looked very beautiful in a white gown of some sort. The only thing that Serena noted was the fact she could almost see through Violet.
"Serena, I need you to know and understand something that I've noticed about you. You're more extraordinary than what you give yourself credit for," Violet said with a gentle smile. "Please, take care of my dog." Violet hugged Serena then vanished as soon as the police and paramedics showed up.
When Violet was gone Serena stood there her eyes widened as the shock reached the rest of her features. She was shocked because she could see her friend. What the hell is going on here? She wondered to herself before she noticed the paramedic man who had approached her.
"Ma'am, are you doing okay?" The man had asked as he looked Serena over in an attempt to make sure that she wasn't possibly harmed by the car accident.
Serena's pale blue eyes met the paramedic's hazel eyes where she noticed something in them made her feel safe. "I'm in a state of shock because that girl that the other paramedics are taking out of that truck is my best friend." She explained to him as she felt the tears well up. She was still in disbelief over the whole situation. How could something like this happen? She wondered to herself.
The man sighed, "I'm very sorry to hear about your best friend." He watched as his co-workers pushed Violet on the gurney over to the ambulance. It was a sight that he had to get used to if this was going to be something he wanted to do for the rest of his life. He still wasn't used to it and Serena could tell. "When I was over there I had found a few things that may be of use to you or possibly someone in her family." He added as he pulled out three objects: Violet's Keys, Wallet, and an enveloped letter.
Serena looked at the objects that the man had in his hands and gently took them in her own. She looked at the keys and smiled as she noticed how each key had been painted with Nail polish. Violet is more creative than I remember. She thought as she also noticed that the girl's wallet was embroidered with her name on it in a forest green color. Then she took note that the envelope was rose-red but wasn't addressed to anyone yet. Was she going to address it when she got home? Serena wondered as her attention went back to the paramedic who stood there patiently.
"Thank you, for being so thoughtful." She said with a sigh. "May I ask where you are going to take her?" Serena bit her lip nervously as she waited for the paramedic's response.
"We will be taking your friend and the other bodies involved in the Nortman Mortuary which is just one block down from Grovers Road. They will keep her body for three weeks so that you'll have time to plan out her funeral or service." He answered her question in hopes that it would eliminate any stress that the accident had put her through.
"I appreciate that." She nodded her head and watched as the paramedic guy walked away. He was very nice. She thought to herself before she turned around to leave herself. She walked over to her bike and sighed as she opened her purse. I will deal with these later. She thought as she let the items the man gave her drop into her purse.
Once she had everything set up she got on her bike and decided that she would take a ride to Violet's house.
