(Sadé's P.O.V.)
I grabbed ahold of my right side, trying to relieve the excruciating pain that I felt after eating four slices of cake. I groaned and and sat back in my chair, I felt like someone was stabbing a needle into my appendix. "I told you not to eat so much cake." Jordan - who was now four years old - said, cleaning up the rest of the wrapping paper from Ne'Veah's birthday party. As if a little light bulbed flashed over his head, he paused and glanced at me. "I think you have a problem."
"I think you need to shut up," I groaned, arching my back while I stretched.
"You've been eating so much lately, I think you're eating your feelings away or you-"
I interrupted him, "Stop trying to sound like Dr. Phil, Jordan. Finish cleaning up."
Showing that he wasn't interested in what I was saying, he rolled his eyes and continued to pick up the wrapping paper. I rolled over on the cream couch, and faced Ne'Veah, "You done yet?" I asked her, watching carefully as she scarfed down her marble cake with her bare hands.
She nodded her head frantically, and I picked her up, fighting the urge to grab the rest of her cake and eat it - maybe Jordan is right, maybe I am eating my feelings away... Nah. I mentally shook my head, laughing at how for a split second, I actually believed what a four year old boy was saying.
I rounded the couch, and ambled out the living room with Ne'Veah on my hip. I heard a few murmuring and laughing coming from the down the hall, and interested to know what the conversation was about, I followed the voices into the kitchen.
"What are y'all talking about?"
The minute I stepped into the kitchen, everyone's - as in Ray Ray, Craig, Diggy, Bri, Jeniya, and Jemiya - mouths pinned shut. Their heads jerked over to me, and they stared at me as if I was not welcomed in my own kitchen. "What?"
Everyone snapped out of their trances, and returned back to reality. The kitchen filled with small murmurs, once again. But I could tell that they had changed the conversation. Before I walked in, they were talking about someone coming to visit, but now they were talking about Ne'Veah's birthday party, and how great it went.
I squinted my eyes, studying their faces. "What are you guys trying to hide from me?"
"Nothing," They all replied, one after the other - like a little echo.
"Tell me the truth." I protested.
"We are." They replied - the same way they did before - one after the other. It was obvious they were all just copying whatever Ray Ray said. He'd be the first to say something, and they'd all reply with the same remark.
I placed Ne'Veah on the floor, and watched her wobble away, and when she was out of sight, I crossed my arms tightly over my chest. "Why can't y'all jus-"
I didn't receive the chance to finish my sentence because I was cut off by the door bell ringing. Ray Ray scurried out of his seat to go answer the door, but I beat him to it.
I swung the door up, "What do yo- JACOB!" I pounced into his arms and planted small kisses over his face, stopping right before I reached his lips. "I missed you so much - never leave me again. How could you have joined the army?" I muffled against his lips. Happy tears already began to leak out my joyful eyes.
It seemed as if he was fighting the urge to kiss me back, and just when he began to lean in, someone cleared their throat.
"Excuse me," A female voice spoke from behind Jacob. I pushed Jacob's afro away from my face as I peered behind him. I looked the woman up and down. She looked about my age, she had brown curly hair that went a bit past her shoulders, and she was also blessed with beautiful brown bangs. Her face was skinny and a bit narrow, her eyes were almond shaped, topped with a green-ish color, and she looked like a cross between black and asian.
"What?" I spat.
"Can you please, hop off my man?"
Hold up, PAUSE.
I chuckled, trying to relieve some of the tension. Jacob stuffed his hands in his jean pockets as he chewed on his body lip and covered his eyes with his hair. "Your man?" I pointed at Jacob, "He's not your man. He's mine."
She scoffed, her eyes wandered over to Jacob and then back to me. "Hate to break it to ya' but me and Jacob are dating so you can..." She shooed me away as if I was a helpless fly, "Go somewhere with your thirsty ass."
I kissed my teeth. I could hear Ne'Veah come up from behind me, so I had to bite my tongue, praying God will give me the strength to NOT cuss this heffa out. How are you going to disrespect me in my own home?
"I'm sorry Sadé, but I've moved on." Jacob said, his head slowly moving from the patio floor, to my eyes.
"You moved on? Just like that? So you're just going to throw our entire relationship away like that?"
"What?" I could tell he got a bit defensive, "I proposed to you, you said no. What, you thought I was just going to wait on you?"
Yes! I wanted to say, but I bit my lip, stoping me from responding. Jacob grabbed ahold of the woman's hand, then escorted her inside. "Bye the way, the name's Jasmine." She whispered to me as she sauntered past, a noticeable smirk plastered on her flawless face.
I grabbed onto her shoulder - still facing forward. "What?" She snarled. She wiggled her arm out of my grip, and I turned so I was facing her face. I looked away, jealous of how beautiful she was.
I glanced up at the sky as I spoke, "You don't want Jacob, he's a mess. I don't think you can handle all the shit he's going to put you through, so just let me have him and -"
She held her finger up to my face, "I've known Jacob longer than you have, he's done worse to me than he has to you. I'm sure I can deal with him." She walked back into the house, but stopped and leaned on the door frame. She tapped her finger on her head, acting as if she was thinking about something. "And I'm guessing Jacob never told you why he was in jail the first time you met him, now did he?"
How the hell does she know that I met Jacob at a Police Department? Either she's a stalker, or Jacob needs to learn how to keep his mouth shut. "No, he didn't." I said, flatly - urging for her to go on.
She chuckled, "Well, I advise you to keep Jacob away from your daughter."
"W-Why?" I gave her a questionable face.
"Just make sure you don't leave Jacob and your daughter alone in the same room. Wouldn't want anything bad to happen." I was two seconds away from slapping this ho, stop dropping hints and just tell me!
"What did he d-do?"
"I was hanging out with Jacob in my house, and we were both watching over my ten year old sister, Brianca, but when I left to the store then came back, I found Jacob and Brianca in the same bed... And I think you can figure out the rest." She sighed, wiping fake - or real - tears away with her index finger. "Jacob went to jail for Child Molesting -"
I didn't want to hear anymore, it was too disturbing. Jacob would never do such a thing, why should I believe Jasmine? Some chick I just met. She was most likely just trying to give me another reason why I shouldn't get back with Jacob. "Yeah right, bitch." I snapped back before meandering into the house - making sure to slam the door in her face.
