It was a cloudy morning at blossom high and the smell of the rains engulfed the atmosphere. It was the day for the trip and various buses tagged with different countries were packed at the schools parking lot ready to take the students to the airport. Some students were already in the bus while others either loitered around the area or walked in out and out of the school building with their luggage. Parents could be seen bidding their kids farewell and leaving the school premises also. At the farthest end of the parking lot were the bus for Nigeria was, Brandon could be seen lazily dragging his box towards the direction of the bus. He had on his wireless headphones which blasted loud metallic music and at the same time typed furiously on his iPhone with his right hand while dragging his box with the left. Totally engrossed in his texting, he didn't notice the huge figure standing in front of the door to the Bus. He bumped into a rock hard chest causing his IPhone to drop on the concrete floor and his headphones to fall down to his neck.
"The hell..." Brandon yelled looking at the figure In front of him but instead of coming face to face with a face he was greeted by a hard chest. He traced the chest upward to the neck and finally met with the face of an angry looking dark skinned man. If Brandon thought he was one of the tallest guys in school or for his age he thought again. His intention was to pummel the looser that blocked his way but with the wall he was seeing here, he reconsidered. He chose his words carefully before replying.
"I...I didn't see you there sir."
Someone instantly snorted behind him and he turned around in horror to see Whitney covering her mouth the hand she was holding her phone in. He instantly glared daggers at her and she twinkled her fingers at him.
"Why can't you watch were you are going?" the huge man boomed angrily at Brandon.
"I said it was an acci-.."
"Get in the bus"
"And if I don't?" Brandon countered feeling a burst of confidence flow through his body.
The huge man only grinned and shifted his attention to Whitney who was getting everything on camera.
"Come in please." He said politely and she quickly put down her phone and walked into the bus. Brandon scowled at him definitely not expecting such a reaction. The huge man just carried Whitney's box set which comprised of five different sizes of purple boxes to the trunk before walking back to his position besides the bus.
"A...Aren't you going to fight me?" Brandon snarled puffing up angrily like little kid. The huge man ignored him and kept a straight face looking ahead like a statue. After awkwardly standing there for about ten minutes, he stomped into the bus without a word. The huge man kept his cool but vowed to have his pound of flesh when they touch African soil.
Brandon got into the bus and immediately caught everyone's attention.
"What the hell are you all looking at!" he snarled and everyone averted their gazes from him. He walked over to the back were Rory the British chap sat reading a book before plummeting into the rigid foamy seat of the bus. Rory didn't spare him a second glance not because he was scared of him or too engrossed in his book but was actually thinking about what Nigeria would be like. His eyes were on a page of his book but his mind was reading elsewhere. He had never actually left Chicago. Although British, he was raised in the U.S.A and never really left the place unless you'd count he being born in England as living the country. So, living this place was a big deal to him and he was internally excited about the trip.
"Hey there." A voice said pulling him out of his pool of thoughts.
He looked up from his book to see Whitney smiling flirtatiously at him.
"Hi... Whitney?" he retorted somewhat confused as to why she was talking to him.
"You know my name? Oh wait of course you know my name. Everyone knows my name." she said looking at the ceiling while twirling her blonde hair. Rory only scowled still confused at the sudden attention he was getting from her.
"So are you new...haven't seen you before."
"The dude is friggin in all your classes." Brandon countered completely irritated by her attitude. Rory who had opened his mouth to reply closed it and gave a simple.
"Yeah."
"Sorry jealous ex alert." She sighed rolling her eyes before completely ignoring Brandon and going back to speaking with Rory. He snorted before closing his book. Brandon was glaring full daggers at Whitney and wanted to smack that coy grin she had on her lips. He had been through a lot while dating Whitney and he wouldn't wish what he went through to any guy or girl.
"So...do...you have a girlfriend?" she asked finally.
"Haven't you any shame?" Ruby cut in out of the bloom causing Whitney to turn back with an irritated look.
"Sorry who are you again?"
Ruby only ignored her and kept on sketching a stickman on her wrist with her blue ball pen.
"If you have something to say to me, say it now." Whitney dared and Ruby smiled turning around completely towards Whitney in her seat.
"Well I think you are a shallow..." she paused as the sounds of yelling could be heard from outside the bus. They all looked out through the left window to see a fuming Erika marching towards the bus followed by a chubby, baled headed man who was yelling profanities at her. She completely ignored him as she put her backpack in the trunk. He kept on yelling as she made her way into the bus.
"I hope you die in Africa you demon!" he concluded before stomping away from the bus. Erika took the first seat she could find which was a single one by the door of the bus. Ruby who was directly behind her couldn't shake off the brief image she saw of her before she sat down. Her puffy eyes and mascara coated cheek reminded her that no matter how tough or confident one is, they all have that vulnerable part of them.
"What was that about?" Whitney complained.
"Shut up!" the whole bus yelled at her and she scowled and folded her arms.
"it was just a question."
"Ok let's get going people...I guess everyone is here?" Mr. Cyril announced peeking through the door of the Bus. He mentally counted the students before nodding.
"Ok...great to have you Whitney." He finished before heading towards the front seat. Whitney only ignored him like an unattractive meal.
The huge man mounted the driver's seat and soon they were on their way to the airport. The ride to the airport was rather short since the airport was in the same district as the school. They got to the airport, went through all the necessary clearance and bid their country farewell as they went beyond its borders. Some of them who hadn't flown before marveled at the puffy clouds and the houses which now looked like little boxes. An interesting adventure was planned quite alright, but they didn't know it was an eccentric one. So begins the adventure that changes the lives of five students forever.
