Subhadra Hegde loved being the wife of Maanav Hegde. Specially in situations as these.
Vaibhav Patel, her thirty year old brother, could not stand a chance before this calm, serene yet stern and fierce twenty three year old soul.
Vaibhav had gone insane! The only thing he'd been waiting for upto thirty springs of his life was suddenly flowing out like grains of sands between his fingers.
He had come running to the Hegdes to plead, on a stormy night." What do Subhadra and you need, Maanav? What don't you have? You both will soon turn able doctors! And what are doctors these days than huge money earning machines? " , he was shaking.
" Who doesn't need money bhai? Everyone on earth does. Ask a streetdog. He too will be happy to have it if taught it's value. "
" So do you think you are a street dog? No doubt you are behaving like one. "
Vaibhav Patel was losing cool. But the ever smiling face of the one in front didn't really get a cringe.
" Of course not, we are humans and we already know the worth of money. "" Why not even!! Your generation itself is a selfish one!! Even if pointed out that someone else desperately needs what you are getting in a fluke, you won't leave an inch!! "
" If you know that much bhai, you should know as well that you are wasting your time." , Maanav softly intervened.
" I wanna talk to my sister privately. " , Vaibhav Patel hissed.
Maanav looked at Subhadra who stood expressionless.
" Of course. If my wife wants to. " , Maanav kept staring at her.
She nodded. " Your wife doesn't want to talk to a stranger. "
Vaibhav Patel was shaking in anger. He really didn't know what he could do to convince this utterly stubborn young couple.
He suddenly too dramatically fell at Subhadra's feet. She sprang back.
" Sister, you know I'm a mediocre. I haven't got brains like you. The business is our family's. Hadn't papa been disinherited, I would automatically have owned it someday..... "
Maanav picked him up and hugged him.
" Aww! Don't cry brother!! Just remember, the world doesn't run on 'could have's and 'should have's. It runs on 'is'.
And the truth is, Subhadra has as much right on the property as you, but the owner of the property chose her. So your rights? Struck off.
Rather than wasting your time here, try convincing your uncle. "Vaibhav Patel kept staring coldly at him for sometime.
Then, left.
Seven days later, Subhadra and Maanav were summoned to Mohan Patel's office.
" Sit. " , he gestured to them.
They did. Were served coffee and snacks.
" Maanav and Subhadra. You both are jewels. Maanav, I'm way too proud to have you as a son-in-law. You both complement each other perfectly.
And I know, she will forever be happy with you. "
Maanav reciprocated with a smile.
Mohan continued.
" I hope you know my son died. Was murdered actually. "
From beneath, Subhadra grabbed Maanav's hand. He pressed back, reassuringly.
" But I didn't continue the investigations. Not worth it. He must have died for his deeds.
And from then onwards I always feel, if I do whatever little I can for Subhadra, maybe my son's soul would have peace somewhere.... "
" You cannot pay for someone else's deeds uncle. They themselves have to. " , Maanav was cold.
Mohan slowly nodded.
" Madan was disowned by baba when he married Sadhna. I tried to convince my father, but he was extremely stubborn.
Just as Vaibhav is.
That poor soul has threatened to murder me as well. I know, his emotions do the talking. He's not that courageous. "
" Really? " , Maanav and Subhadra said in unison. Somehow startling Mohan.
" ..... Yeah....
I know him. He has been waiting for this money for quite sometime now. But the thing is, I have never liked him much. He took financial help from me to America, wasted the entire damn time and money doing nothing!!
Plus, didn't care to know how his parents or sister was in the time period.I don't know how Sadhna and Madan are yet almost pleading to transfer the entire property to him. They feel Subhadra doesn't need the money. She's capable enough. "
" So, what have you decided, uncle? " , Maanav asked.
" Errm.....
I have decided to split it into two halves now.
Unwillingly though..... "
Maanav and Subhadra stared at each other.
Vaibhav paced up and down the room.
Mohan Patel had promised to ring him up once he settled things with convincing the stubborn Hegdes.
But almost six hours passed with no phone call. His uncle's phone showed switched off. His PA said he's on a meeting.
How long a meeting could a cancer patient do?
He sniffed.Sadhna and Madan too were sitting quite displeased.
No, they never had an enemity with their daughter. But when she's capable herself, why transfer the entire property to her name?!Even splitting 75-25 would prove helpful to Vaibhav.
" Sit down beta! Mohan has promised us. He won't break that. " , Madan said.
" You don't know papa!!!
Maanav Hegde is a cunning man!! And he has completely moulded Subhadra!!! She calls me a stranger!!
Most importantly both of them are shrewdly smart. I don't trust uncle's abilities over them. "Vaibhav sat down on a chair shaking his legs.
" But I do. Mohan will not do this to you, once hammered. The thing is his conscience makes him do things for Subhi. But that doesn't mean he'll deprive everyone else. " , Sadhna concluded.
The door bell rang.
Sadhna went and opened it.
Three straight and tall men walked in.
Adoring khakee.
" Mr Vaibhav Patel ? "
Vaibhav stood up. Utterly confused. So were Sadhna and Madan.
" You'll have to come with us.
You have been charged. "
" For what??? " , Madan shrieked, holding his chest already.
" For the murder of Mr Abheek Patel. "
Madan Patel's world turned black.
'Karma? Uhu! Destiny.'
