"What if I'm not joking?"

I froze. What? What was that supposed to mean? Also, why did I feel a head ache coming on? I mean, sure, I tend to get the things a ton, but this was a different sort of feeling. There was an added spark of lightheaded-ness.

"Avery?" I heard Liam ask.

"What?" I responded, breaking out of my mental bubble. I space out often when talking to people. Usually because I have something more interesting to think about than what they're babbling about. I know that sounds mean, but seriously-How long can I listen to you talk about your boyfriend or the nail polish you bought yesterday? Especially when there are things like theoretical physics to think about!

"I asked you if you've ever loved anyone."

What was up with this guy? Confusing was the one adjective that popped into my mind at this moment. Yet, his eyes gave away his curiosity, and he had an almost hopeful look. "Uh, can't say I have. Always been too idiosyncratic to date anyone. Plus, people tend to confuse, bother, scare, or bore me. Doesn't leave many options for dating. Heck, I told myself at age 13 that I was never gonna get married. As I like to say, I'm not part of an emotional involvement because it would lead to being...involved emotionally," I explained. Well, rambled. Love has always been something I've never believed in. It creates too much drama. I carefully glanced at Liam, who had an eyebrow raised.

"I see."

I laughed and looked up to the television screen. It was close to the end of the film, now. Liam and I watched the remainder of Monster's Inc. in silence. The credits started to roll so I pulled out the DVD and shut off the player. It was nearing four o'clock now, and I wasn't sure what we were going to do.

"So..." Charlie trailed off. "Uhhh..."

Abby, Liam, and I started to laugh, soon causing Charlie to join in.

"I'll go make tea," I suggested, getting up to go the kitchen. I heard Liam get up and follow me. I set the kettle on the stove and turned to face him. "Do you mind what kind? I'm kinda feeling black tea," I asked.

"Yeah, that's fine."

"Cool..." I decided that I needed music. It's one of those things that keeps me sane. Well, keeps me as sane as I am. Which is to say it keeps me INsane. Whatever. I slid across the kitchen floor with my socks on and pulled my iPhone out of my pocket. I plugged it into the dock we had on the island and switched it on. I scrolled through my music before I found 'Chin Up' by Copeland. It's one of my favourites right now. {External link. The video on the side is a different song that inspired the chapter.}  I started to slide around the kitchen and sing along. After a few beats I heard another voice. I whipped around to catch a slightly insecure looking Liam singing along. His Scottish accent made his singing voice so incredible.

"Wow," I breathed. "You're amazing," I grinned, took one of his hands in mine, and put my other hand on his shoulder blade. I continued to waltz with the song, dragging a slightly surprised Liam along with me. {Side note: I can, indeed, waltz correctly.} The song finished just as the kettle whistled. It felt nice being close to him, however, and I didn't really wanna let go. Neither did he, it seemed, as we were both just standing there in dancing position as another song came on over the whistling of the kettle. I slowly pulled myself closer to him and hugged him. ...And then Abby walked in.

"Hey I heard-" she paused, probably looking at us. "Never mind." I heard her retreat back to Charlie in the living room. Liam and I just stood there some more before I directed my eyes to the window.

"I'TS RAINING!" I yelled excitedly. Rain makes me act like a five year old on Christmas. I looked up into Liam's eyes. "Will you go outside with me?" I asked hopefully. He turned his head to look outside the window at the sheets of cold rain, the black sky, and the trees bending in strong gusts of wind.
