Short but powerful. Like Warheads. {Sorry if you're deprived and don't understand that analogy. Just try sticking ten in your mouth at once.}

I walked into the flat, quietly shutting the door behind me. I made my way past a silent and confused Charlie, who was in the kitchen making tea. I sighed, eyes closed for a minute, as I opened the door to my room. I tugged the drapes shut, the door closed. The light remained off. I lay down on the floor, reaching for the now dishelved lion plush Abby had given me for my 14th birthday. I felt like I wanted to cry. Hell, I KNEW I wanted to cry, but still the tears would not come.
"Damn," I muttered. If only I had thought about it. If only I had been rational. If only.
Mere Hours Earlier
It was nearly three weeks since Christmas, and finally time for me to go pick up Abby from the airport. I hugged a barely awake Liam goodbye, giving him a peck on the cheek.
"We should be back around 1:00," I said, waving and closing the door to the flat behind me. "Oh, and Charlie should pop in a little before then as the welcome wagon for Abby," I laughed, poking my head through the door again. Liam smiled and nodded, like all was well. I grinned back, humming happily as I slid into the car. I sang along to the crappy radio pop on the way to the airport, where I found one of those uncomfortable plastic chairs to wait in. Of course, the flight was delayed, but nothing could squash my mood. I was happy. I had everything I could ever want. A loving boyfriend, Abby and Charlie as best friends, a successful YouTube channel, and a bright future. What could go wrong? Oh, if only I had known.
"ABBBBBBYYY!!" I shouted, bolting towards my fiery headed friend who was running as fast as possible with her luggage toward me.
"AVVVEEEERRRYYY!!!!" she yelled back, dropping the luggage handle and hugging me.
"DUDE! Guess what I found out while you were away!" I said, slightly quieter, as I backed away and she grabbed her luggage again.
"What?!" she said, eyes bright. "Please tell me you and Liam are a thing by now!"
"Well, yeah, but that wasn't what I was gonna tell you," I laughed, shaking my head. Much to my distaste, she found this grounds to scream, causing many dirty looks from various people in the airport. "Yo! Shutting up would be good," I whispered.
"But, like, that's AMAZING!" Abby exaclaimed, still bouncing up and down.
"Yeah, but DUDE. I HAVE TO TELL YOU WHAT I FOUND OUT!" I continued, helping her bring her stuff to our car.
"What? And it better be awesomer than you dating Liam, 'cause I swear to god-"
"AVERY MEANS 'WISE RULER OF THE ELVES'!!" I shouted, sticking the keys in the ignition. Abby stared at me.
"What?"
"Avery. Like, my name-"
"I realize your name is Avery," Abby said, rolling her eyes.
"IT MEANS 'WISE RULER OF THE ELVES', YO!"
"You know, this really shouldn't surprise me. At all. Yet I still can't believe you were gonna tell me that but not that you're dating Liam," she sighed. I merely grinned. We talked about Christmas and what we got for the rest of the short drive. I parked the car, unloaded her stuff, and gently knocked on the flat door. It was thrown open by Charlie, who was dressed in a ridiculous duck hat, and had a noise maker in his mouth, which he blew on, causing that awful squeaking noise.
"WELCOME BACK!" he shouted, tackling Abby with a huge hug.
"I like the hat," I commented, dragging Abby's bags into her room, letting her and Charlie be all couple-y. Finally they joined me in the living room, where I was turning on the television. As they sat down on the couch, something occured to me. "Hey, Charlie," I started, looking at him.
"Yeah?"
"Where's Liam?"
"I dunno, now that you mention it. He wasn't here when I came. Abby gave me a key," he explained.
"Oh..." I murmured. "I'll try texting him," I mused, getting up to sit in the kitchen and put some tea on.
To Link: (Liam's name in my phone. I guess he just reminded me of Link from Zelda.)
Where are you? Thought you didn't have plans?
I waited in the kitchen for fifteen minutes, letting the tea brew as I sat, praying nothing had gone wrong. He had just gone out to the store, right? Or to get coffee? Maybe he was going to pick up balloons for our welcome party, but had gotten distracted?
Finally, I carried two tea cups to the living room.I handed one to Charlie, as Abby's never been a huge tea fan.
"...Did you text him?" Charlie asked, nodding in thanks as he took the cup.
"Yeah," I said shortly, turning to the television where a Dr. Who rerun was playing.
"So where is he?" Abby asked, snuggling into Charlie's chest.
"I'unno. He hasn't texted back."
"That's weird. He usually does," Charlie said, a bit of concern in his eyes. "I wonder if his phone died. He's probably at Tesco. Got some weird craving or something."
"Yeah," I mumbled. I was being dumb. I shouldn't be so worried.
But when it hit five o' clock I WAS worried. Really worried.
"I'm gonna go get the pizza," I finally said, unable to sit still any longer.
"Thanks!" Abby said, giving me a small smile. I nodded back, grabbing my coat and bag.
It seemed as if it tooks hours for the pizza to be done. I fidgeted the entire time, my mind in another place. I constantly checked my phone before finally taking the pizza. I jammed it in the back seat and began the drive home, only to spot a familiar figure walking with an unfamiliar person. A very gorgeous unfamiliar person. Walking with Liam. I slowed down, unrolling the window. I oggled at the two people, hand in hand, as they walked down the street. And then they stopped under a street lamp, like on a book cover. She spun him around into a hug before pulling his head down-to kiss him. My eyes widened and my mouth dropped open. Was I hallucinating? I rubbed my eyes, looking again to make sure I was right. Nope. This was no hallucination, I saw, a sinking feeling in my gut. I snapped a photo on my phone, a single tear escaping my eyes. I immediatly pushed it away, taking in a deep breath. I slowly rolled the window up and continued driving.
