"Um, yes of course," I say completely thrown off guard.
I take a glance back at Mr Benson muttering away on his stool about something and motion for us to step back out into the hall for some privacy.
Mr Daley steps aside to let me through as I close the door shut behind me. And gaze up into his eyes expectantly.
He clears his throat in what looks like a stern expression crosses his face as he gains control of the situation.
Oh crap, he is going to fire me, isn't he?
I try my best to muster a prompting smile but I know there's disappointment in my eyes."I hope your boss there wasn't too upset with you for arriving late two days in a row." He gestures to the mailroom door beside us.
I cringe internally. "Well yes he was a bit... but he's upset with a lot of things in life." I roll my eyes and nervously brush my hair behind my ears before looking up at his stunning features again.
"It's my bosses, bosses, boss I'm hoping isn't too upset," I suggest trying to make him get to the point and fire me already if that's what he came here to do.
His eyebrows raise at the realisation of what I mean.
"I came down here to reassure you... I was cut off earlier this morning.""Oh," is all I can manage, feeling a little lighter. Thank god for that!
I find my eyes lingering a little too long on his perfect plump lips which are twisted up in a smile.
I smile genuinely this time with relief. His eyes flicking down slightly towards my lips I think as well. His tongue darts out to lick his bottom lip before he speaks again.
"Of course I'm not going to fire you because the public transport system is unreliable. That hardly seems fair does it."
"Thank you, Sir," I say gratefully.
"No need... I'm sorry I never properly introduced myself,"
I blink rapidly at his extended hand and reflexively grasp his firm hand with my own.
"Oliver Daley." He says and I just nod my head trying to mask the embarrassment I feel over already knowing this.
"And you are...?" The words hang in the air a moment before I register that I'm supposed to answer him.
"Oh, I'm Billie," I blush involuntarily. "Billie Dalton"
"Miss Dalton," he nods making a move to go.
I just stand there dumbstruck for a moment as I watch him round the corner back towards the elevators.
Why do people say he never smiles? That interaction was full of smiles...
