Devil Herself

Chapter 3

Years passed, and soon, Raven was preparing for her 18th Birthday. She was home-schooled and given everything she ever wanted. But slowly, she started to want to go back to the real world to go to University and make friends. 

She didn't have many friends in Hell. Just some people she would talk to if she passed them in the town. She wanted to go to college as an opportunity to make real friends, and hopefully meet the one for her. So she decided to ask.

"Dad?" Raven called from her room to the kitchen. "Can you come here, please? I want to talk to you about something important!"

"Coming!" He called back.

Raven nervously smiled and sat on her bed, crossing her legs with Chester's head in her lap. She could hear the soft footsteps of Lucifers' feet as he walked to her room. He knocked gently on the door.

"Come in, Dad," she called to him.

Lucifer walked in and closed the door gently behind him. "What's wrong, Raven?" He questioned, sitting on the bed with her.

"Dad... I want to tell you that I..." But she stopped, rubbing her arm.

"Raven, are you pregnant?" He demanded.

"No! Ew, hell no! That's gross, Dad!"

He laughed at her reaction. "I'm kidding, what's going on?"

"Dad, I'm almost 18... And I was hoping..."

Lucifer tilted his head.

Raven couldn't hold it anymore and decided to get it over with.

"I wanna go to Harvard!" She blurted out.

Lucifer's small smile almost immediately vanished. "What do you plan to study at Harvard?"

"E-English Literature..." She stuttered, too nervous to talk properly.

"Can't you study here? We can get you a college tutor."

"I never get to see the normal realm, and I have no friends here. I want to make friends and be able to go out on a Saturday night and be like other girls."

"But you're not like them, Raven. You're different."

"I know that but don't I deserve a chance?"

Lucifer sighed with irritation. "Where will you stay? How will you make money? Who will look after you when you're sick?"

"Dad! I'm not a kid anymore, I can look after myself if I'm sick, and if I get a scholarship, they give me a frat house and payment every week! I can survive alone during the school year, and on holidays I'll come home."

Lucifer sighed. "Who would be in the frat house with you?"

"It's a four-bedroom, so three other people, most likely all girls."

"I'll talk to your mother about it. When do applications close?"

"Next Friday, but for the Scholarship, Monday."

"Alright. I'll go talk to her now."

Raven nodded and stayed in her room while her father left the room. But she had a feeling they wouldn't agree to it. But still, she hoped, waiting for what felt like hours for them to come back with an answer.

Soon enough, Lily's Cerberus, Ash, nudged the door open and came inside, standing in the doorway. Raven sighed, understanding and stood, Chester following her. She went to the conference room in the palace, Ash leading the way with Chester at her side. The three-headed dog opened the door and brought them inside where Lucifer and Lily sat, Lucifer at the head of the table and Lily on his left.

"Raven, sit down," he instructed. She walked over and sat on his right side across from Lily.  "We've been considering your request," he continued. "Your mother and I have decided that we will let you go to Harvard in Massachusetts."

Raven smiled with excitement and stood to hug them. But Lily stopped her.

"There are conditions," she warned. "Chester and Ash go with you to keep us informed of what's going on. We will ensure the house your given allows dogs. In the human world, they both look like huskies so you won't need to worry about that. But, if anyone gets suspicious or learns who you are, you come straight home. Understand?"

Raven nodded. "Yes mother, thank you."

Lily stood and hugged her daughter. "Just be safe, that's all I ask."

"I will mother."

Lucifer sighed and stood, hugging his wife and daughter. "If anything happens, I'll come get you okay?"

She smiled. "Ok, dad..."

*A few weeks later*

Raven excitedly packed her bags. Her acceptance letter from Harvard arrived that morning, granting her a place in the scholarship. Lucifer had called the school, clarifying that the fraternity house on campus was animal-friendly so Ash and Chester would be going with her.

Raven put her clothes, school supplies, and all her necessities into a suitcase. She put the dogs bowls and food into a separate bag from her things so the clothes won't smell. But despite her excitement, she was nervous. She was rarely in the human world but now she was going to live and study there.

Soon, Ash walked in with Chester, the two dogs going with Raven to the entrance to the human world. Lucifer was waiting on the other side with the car, ready to drive her to the campus and helped put her belongings in the trunk. Raven opened the back door for the dogs to climb into the car and got herself into the passenger seat beside her dad. 

"Ready to go, Raven?" He asked. She nodded and they hit the road, leaving the Devil's Casino and heading for Massachusetts. 

The drive was long but enjoyable. They played music, made jokes, played simple games like truth or dare. She was shocked to learn her dad's first kiss was when he was 23. He was even more shocked to learn she was 14 when she had hers. 

Eventually, after an eventful and humorous drive, they reached Harvard University. They went inside after parking, put the dogs on their leashes and headed towards the reception. After signing a few forms to show she had arrived. She then received her timetable, her books, the necessary equipment and finally the address of her new house. 

The fraternity house was just a five-minute walk away but they still brought the car around to bring her stuff to her. She walked inside and heard light laughter from the kitchen. They brought in her boxes and bags and when the door closed, the laughter stopped. She was nervous but knew she would need to introduce herself eventually. After a short goodbye to Lucifer, she headed into the kitchen to meet her new housemates.
