The next morning I greeted Aaliya and Ismail before I went to campus. They were leaving for their Honeymoon later that morning. I was exhausted but had to go to campus for a test. During the day our lecturers informed us that we should begin considering our community service placements. Some would be given the option to do it at Greenhill Academic in London. I was too tired to think about that.
Zaid suddenly became extra possessive and got irritated If he didn't know where I was. I put it down to him looking out for me. Word was going around that he was looking for a wife. At times I did toy with the idea. He was good looking, rich, charming and romantic. He was becoming a dentist so we would understand the demands of my career. He would also be supportive of me specialising. Then the argument we had about me being better than him would flash before me and I would abandon my idea. I guess I was way out of his league and from a mixed background. His family was highly caste conscious.
The relationship between my father and his brother grew tremendously well. Aa'isha and her dad were back in London. They ran the family empire from there. In mid May my grandfather informed us that, my grandmothers health was deteriorating. I approached daddy and asked him if he would consider visiting his mother. He said that there was lots to consider but he would think about it. It was important to him that he speak to my mother about it too. I really admired the amount of value my father had for my mother. A quality I later came to know was very rare. Daddy then brought up a topic I was not expecting. Marriage. He asked my thoughts and opinions about it.I expressed my acceptance of marriage and my fears too. Especially those fears that surrounded my careers and dreams. He seemed to understand. I was sure he too must have heard the chatter about no one wanting to marry a girl who is too qualified. A week later mummy and daddy told us that during the June holidays, we would be going to Saudi. After visiting my grandparents we would perform umrah. Ismail and Aaliya would see to the garage and filling stations. I was so excited at the thought of meeting my family and doing Umrah. Even more so my mother was going to do it with us too. A remarkable woman indeed. I went next door to raid Aaliyas kitchen. She always had the most delicious things to eat. As I entered the smell of something tugged me in.
Aaliya was in the kitchen. "Good you here. Pass me the fresh cream. I can't stop whisking this sauce."
I passed her the fresh cream. "hmmm it smells too good. What are you making?"
"I knew you would come sniffing around for something so I am making Alfredo."
"I love you I love you I love you." I screamed and hugged her.
"You better learn to cook. You never know when you might need to know." she winked.
"What you mean? You are here. I gave you my brother so now u you must repay me with Food for life." I felt as though Aaliya wanted to tell Mr something but stopped. We spent the afternoon eating and laughing until Ismail came home. I hadn't realised the time. They invited me to join them for supper but I declined. They needed their space.
On Saturday morning Aaliya treated mummy, nani and I to a spa day. If only I knew.
