On the day of Jason's brothers funeral, everyone was at the church, dressed in black suits and dresses. Delia suddenly arrived with her parents. She got out of the car and immediately walked up to Jason. "How are you Jason?" "I'm fine Delia. I just wish he was here." "He's always with you." "I know. Thanks for being here." "Your my friend Jason. I'd be happy to be here whenever you need me." They hugged as Damien approached them. "Hey Delia." "Damien." "Hey Jason, your parents wants to see you." He nodded and walked towards them.

Delia hugged him. "I know I don't know his family, but I know him and I want to be here for him. My parents said I could come because I'm his friend." "Yeah. We're here for him and that's what matters." Everyone was then told to enter the church as the service then began.

When the service was over, everyone talked to Jason and his parents. Delia walked out with her parents with Damien by her side with his father. "Thanks for coming Delia. Jason really appreciates this." "I know. I'm just glad to be here for him."

When Damien was home, he got dressed into comfortable clothes and went to sit on the sofa in the living room. "Damien?" "Yeah dad?" "I've got to go." "Alright. When will you be back?" "Late. I'm not exactly sure when." "Be careful." "I'll be fine. Invite Jason and Delia if you want to. Don't feel alone." He smiled as he watched his father leave.

Damien thought of his mother. He said out loud, "what would you have done mum? What would you do if your best friend was upset and there was nothing you could do?" "Just be there for them. Go out to Jason. He needs you." "But dad-" "your dad will be fine. He understands." He nodded, stood up and walked out of the house. He locked the door and began to walk to Jason's house.

"Hi Jason. Can I come in?" "Sure." He sounded down, but he had an excuse. "How are you holding up?" "Better than I thought I would." "Well, my dad has gone out and I thought I would get out so I came out to see you." "Thanks. You're a true friend." "How are your parents?" "Sad, obviously, but fine." "It's hard. We know what your brother meant to you." "Everything." "Exactly."

After getting into the car from Jason's house the next day, Damien was being driven home by his father. "Dad?" "Yeah?" "Are you at work today?" "Yes. I leave at five and I'll be home in the middle of the night. If you want to invite Jason or you want to stay with him for tonight, go ahead." "Thanks. If I stay with him, will you be okay?" "I'll be fine."

At five o'clock in the afternoon, Damien said goodbye to his father and called Jason. "Hi pal. Listen. You can either come over for a while, or I can come to you." "I'll come over. I need a friend." "My door is always open to you Jason. My dad would say the same thing."

After half an hour, Jason knocked on the door and Damien answered it. "Hi Jason. Come in." "Thanks." "My dad is at work and he won't be back until early in the morning. He said I could either invite you to stay or I could stay with you for the night." "Come home with me." He nodded, packed a bag and made his way to his friends house.

"Mum, dad?" "In here Jason," his father called. "Damien is here." "Hi Damien." "Hi. My dad said I could come over and stay with Jason for tonight." "Yes, he called us to let us know." He nodded as Jason's mother said, "make yourself at home Damien. Our home is your home." "Thanks. I promise to keep an eye on Jason. Maybe we can go and play football." "I'd like that," Jason said with a smile on his face. "Let's go."
